"the best way to win in '08 is to lose in '06"
Anyone remember that? I'm trying to find the article or quote and was wondering if anyone knows where?

I mention it because the approach these neocons are taking seems to assume long term power. It's frightening to think that they have a plan to take back control.

1. I actually think their plans are unraveling at this point...
Which, of course, makes them even more dangerous...

2. Just remember, "winning" doesn't mean winning once and for all
They have a patient strategy because they know if they only get into power once every eight or twelve years, they can do a lot of damage. They don't care about proving they are right or waffling to stay in power, it's all about how much they can steal while they are in power. So, they can promise whatever polls show they should promise, and not worry about trying to do any of it.

4. I hope you're correct (it's sad that I would hope that)
I'm actually sitting here hoping that the neocons have stolen all they want for now....

Interesting that I think many (at least I am) are more frightened of these neocons, than anything else.

I'm hesitant to assume that they are happy with what they've stolen and will walk away quietly now. What if big oil doesn't have everything they want? Or what if it is more about expanding the military industrial complex? I know I can't live in fear like this, with all the "what if's", but I don't think I could take this type of thing happening again.

3. It was the thin gruel served up by GOP flacks when an impending loss was clear.
It's even thinner now, as Republicans attack each other.

5. Ah heck they own both parties.
At worst they fear a progressive insurgency that captures control of the Democratic Party, but they are not losing a ton of sleep over it. The worst case scenario for them they think they can resolve like they did with McGovern, and we will go away again for another 25 years.

Keep in mind that the neocons are the foreign policy wing of the washington consensus, the neoliberals are the economic policy wing. Together they constitute a majority control of both parties, although they may fight each other over the spoils every now and then, and sometimes neocon imperial adventures get in the way of neoliberal kleptocracy and vice versa. So you do have an internal squabble that can get serious, as we do right now.

But look how things have played out since we 'won' in november. Out of Iraq? Heck no, instead we just went all in with another 50,000 troops and we are maneuvering to take the fight into Iran.

Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating apathy or third party solutions. But the fight for control over the Democratic Party is the fight we have to win first. Then we might have a shot at changing things.
