An Article about the State of Healthcare..
This is from the Nat'l MS Society...so it's about people with MS. But I'm sure that anyone w/any major health problems know the money problems that it can bring.

Many People with MS Report Financial Strain Related to Health Care

January 30, 2007

<snip>
Despite the high rate of health insurance, a significant proportion of participants reported high levels of stress and difficulties related to affording health care services and medications. In order to pay for health care needs, 44% reported making other kinds of changes in their lives. Some 21% reported spending less on food, heat and other necessities to pay for health care needs, and 22% did not fill prescriptions or skipped doses of medicine. Over a third reported worrying “a lot” about losing or not having health insurance, about the cost of health insurance, and about whether their health coverage might change. <snip>

1. My mom has MS....
and takes daily injections of copaxone, at a cost of $1600 per month. Fortunately, Dad has good health coverage.

2. My husband has MS and just stopped taking his weekly injectable
because it costs thousands of dollars a month and we are presently without health insurance.

What I want to know, is why it costs thousands of dollars for my husband to take four shots a month.

3. I wonder the same thing
but I'm on the three times a week shot. I am thankful that I still have health insurance... b/c without it, I am toast.

5. been through Chapter 7, now poor
Hubby is on dialysis. He could not work for some time before he was declared "disabled" and my low-paying job did not offer any benefits. So we spent down all our assets to get him on low-income healthcare. Last summer, we went through bankruptcy. Now we live on his SSDI payment.
