WOW...I SAID, WHO THE HECK IS HE? SAID ALL THE RIGHT THINGS; WHY DON'T OUR OTHER DEMS SAY THESE THINGS?

2. He is was absolutely fantastic! I don't know if it was me, but did you feel as if some of the
audience was afraid to applaud him?

4. I think you are right about that.
The body language on some of those people was amazing. Some were covering their mouths with their hands, some had their arms crossed in a defensive position (wondered if they were from other campaigns), some looked liked they couldn't decide what to do with their faces.

Gravel is high on my list right now. He is absolutely correct. Anyone that sacrifices lives for political expediency does not deserve to lead.

3. Old Mike has never been afraid to speak his mind.
I wish he was still Alaska's senator.

5. What impressed me the most is that he is from Alaska
Refreshing compared to Ted :puke: Stevens.

7. Alaska used to be a Democratic state
Edited on Sat Feb-03-07 06:35 PM by Blue_In_AK
until we were taken over by Big Oil. Both Ted Stevens and Don Young came into their positions because of the deaths of Democratic congressmen. Ted was appointed to his position after the death of Democrat Bob Bartlett in 1968. In 1972 Don Young was defeated by Democrat Nick Begich, who sadly at the time of the election was missing and presumed dead in a mysterious plane crash. In 1973 a special election was held and this time Young won. We've been stuck with Ted and Don ever since.

As for Gravel, this is the Wikipedia entry for why he lost in 1980.

In 1980, he was challenged for renomination by State Representative Clark Gruening, the grandson of the incumbent Gravel had defeated in a primary 12 years earlier. Gravel was himself defeated in the primary after Jerry Falwell mustered the Christian Right in support of Gruening, who would go on to lose in the general election to Republican Frank Murkowski.
