A 'christian' Rightist calls for the imprisonment of Adulterers, Republicans quietly walk away
Televangelist and Ohio “Patriot Pastor” leader Rod Parsley’s Center for Moral Clarity is urging the revival of long-dormant laws against adultery in states such as Michigan, where adultery is technically a felony, although no one has been prosecuted for 36 years.

In an e-mail update to its supporters, the Center noted with approval the remark of an appeals court judge that a Michigan statute criminalizing sex involving commission of a felony, when combined with the law making adultery a felony, could lead to life in prison. “Lawmakers and judges in Michigan are holding married couples accountable for their vows of fidelity,” touted CMC, adding that “The rest of the nation should take a look at the Michigan statute. Criminal laws are designed to force people to conform to certain acceptable standards of personal behavior. Most of society's code of conduct has its roots in the 10 Commandments.”

"Adultery is a violation of biblical instruction as well as an offense against the other partner in what should be a sacred relationship,” said Parsley. But given his history of involvement in Republican politics, where will that leave him in 2008, with frontrunning presidential candidates McCain and Giuliani, along with potential dark horse Gingrich, each allegedly carrying an adulterous past that, in Parsley’s world, would put them behind bars?

2. Has Pastor Parsley paused to consider that the
prisons currently in existence couldn't possibly begin to accommodate all the "felons" guilty of adultery?

"What are you in for?"

"Did it with a neighbor while the wife was away. With any luck I'll be out in 20 years."

"You got off easy. I got drunk in Vegas and did it with a hooker. TSA found her number in my suitcase. Life sentence. No parole."

You can't make up shit this ridiculous.

3. Christians should be penalized for adultery - it is THEIR religious belief...
but then some other collections of fairy tales may also penalize this as a function of their myths.

people who do NOT believe these myths should be immune from this claptrap. Is "adultery" good IMO? not
for people who say they will be committed and true to each other, for then they have betrayed their word.

When was the last time you enjoyed a lobster meal with pork chops on the side while drinking a cold glass of milk, wearing your poly-cotton clothes on Sunday?

10. I've been a vegan for over 6 years, so...
...I can't say I've recently "enjoyed a lobster meal with pork chops on the side while drinking a cold glass of milk."

7. When people on the Right as well as the
Christian Right are outright have it pointed out them--that
sometimes they give the impression that they are trying
to push their Religious Values on the Rest of Americans;
and this frightens people--they indignantly deny any
such ideas.

While most Americans are not for Adultry, they do not
wish to have Morality legislated. It is up to Churches
to teach Morality as they understand it , encourage their
members to live moral lives. There will always be sinners
and Christ spent a whole lot of time with the "Sinners"

Getting the government involved in behavior modification
will lead to a suffocating society.

Church has to do it job. The Government is not to become
an extension of the Church.

Maybe Pastor Dimsdale would be content with that, at least as a first step. Just a modest proposal.

9. Broad brush alert!
I am now wondering when it will be discovered that the "patriot pastor" (wow, I just knew Jesus was an American /sarcasm) is having an affair with another woman or women? Is having an affair with another man or men? Is beating his wife? Is molesting children?

In my years of watching these, er, people, the 'louder' they preach for punishment that others should suffer and the stricter the punishment, the greater the chance they will be exposed (pun intended) for having committed a 'sin' or a crime such as that for which they want others punished.

11. New York Penal Code Section 255.17 Adultery
Class B Misdemeanor. I got this from FindLaw. It's STILL on the books? Could this possibly be because New York is still a grounds state for divorce? Talk about unenforceable laws. Imagine trying to bring charges of this in a city of 8 million people?

On a lighter note, our former Mayor and probable Presidential candidate, has broken the law in New York, multiple times. Hmmmmmm. Anyone want to press charges????

That's the way. The Republicans are toast. Both Rudy and Newt are serial adulterers. McCain was also involved with another woman before he divorced his wife.

Who are the fundies going to vote for who would win the moderates support?

than the same should be said about divorce. paul decries divorce above and beyond homosexuality. jesus even talks about divorce while he has nothing to say about gays.

24. Parsley is a hardcore Dominionist nazi
He literally believes that the only way to bring Jesus back is to FORCE the "Kingdom of God" on earth. BTW, his brother is the guy who took over Ted Haggard's church in Colorado Springs after the "meth and man ass" scandal a few months ago.

27. Dear God: For the furtherance of yr Holy Word, please PLEASE
make me a gazillionaire so I can buy up a large piece of real estate (say, half the state of Nevada) and deed it over to one of your worthy servants such as His Most Holy TV Rev. Parsley, as the site of the most grand "christian community" the world has ever seen! Please, God, I won't let on that you are a mythological being who could give a rat's @$$ who anybody has sex with--seeing as how you raped Mary and all--just please endow Congress with the wisdom to approve that site to secede from the rest of the U.S., the money (lots of it) to reimburse the people who already live there who will want to flee, and about 5,000 miles of razor-wire fencing to keep them in their own country once it is all set up.

Please, just this ONE little favor? Since you created the world and everything in it in only 6 days, 6,000 years ago, I know this will be nothing for you. I apologize for the time I called Jim and Tammy Faye and some of your other servants "cretins," "clowns," "hucksters," and "fucking trailer-trash carny snakeoil salesmen"--I really didn't mean it, honest!

And just think how much easier it would be for you, God, if all your followers were in one secure compound! That way, when you rain down your wrath on the rest of us--and I admit, I will be among those most smitten, for my lack of respect and days of fornication and reading books like Harry Potter and Catcher in the Rye--anyway, you will be able to have them all in one place, nice and easy to call them up to You in one big airlift -- well, anyway, I don't usually do this, so I'm kind of stammering here -- just this one little thing -- PLEASE!!!
