A few of us are getting together tonight for a C-SPAN2 tailgate party.
This isn't a knock at football fans. But anytime we want to see a bunch of guys butting heads while countless fans cheer them on, all we have to do is turn on FOX or one of the World-Wide wrestling shows.

So tonight we'll be sipping our lattes while watching people who wrote books and are challenging us to think.

There was an old interview with Molly Ivins that was replayed this morning. Perhaps I'm a geek or nerd, but I'd really rather listen to Molly than watch 50 or 60 commercials paid for by corporations which see us as consumers at best, and cannon fodder at worst.

1. Never you mind. Real human talent made those ads.
But no question that Molly gives them a run for their money.

4. My objection is not human talent. It's in how it's used.

7. To call attention to products made by people with jobs?
Oh, why would we want to do that?

Because so few of those people are still Americans? Unquestionably a legitimate gripe. But advertising has not yet been totally offshored. So you're condemning one of the few American industries still standing?

Well, that makes all the sense in the world.

8. If I understand what you're saying, go ahead and buy drive-thru junk food,
pharmaceutical products for a dollars on the penny, WalMart products at bargain prices because they don't give their employees a living wage or any sort of benefits.

So go ahead and protect the advertising industry. I was in this industry for a while. And the geniuses there are paid for their ability to twist reality into something attractive, while selling rat shit to people while telling it will make them stronger, thinner, smarter, richer, or more intelligent.

The advertising industry should not only be off shored, but also be branded with a Scarlett Letter that brands them as what they are: Whores who sell their souls to make a living.

We all have to give up on a bit of our souls to hang onto our jobs, but most of us don't deceive and destroy others in the process.

2. That interview is great!
I watched it today. God, she was someone you could just hang out with, y'know?

5. Not a highjack
but when you mentioned Molly, I was reading this a little while ago.

Even the rudeone looses all rancor in Molly's light:

6. Yep. I read it yesterday. It's another great tribute to a great woman named Molly Ivins.
