Cavuto Airs Segment About David Vitter But if You Blinked, You Wouldn't Know he Was a Republican
Fox's "business news" anchor, Neil Cavuto, aired a segment today (July 10, 2007) about David Vitter. Vitter, as you may know, is the protect-the-sanctity-of-marriage Republican Senator from Louisiana whose phone number was found in the "D.C. Madam's" little black book. After Hustler magazine phoned Vitter on Monday asking for a comment about an article they were working on about the D.C. Madam, Vitter issued a statement confessing to his "sin."

Cavuto's segment asked "how he could restore his image" but if you blinked, you wouldn't have known his party affiliation. Ah yes, more "fair and balanced news" from Fox.

Cavuto's guest for the segment was a guy named Barry Minkow. Minkow, a white collar criminal who served jail time for fraud and then found God, is Cavuto's go-to guy about what it's like to be in the slammer and/or to rehabilitate oneself after getting caught doing something illegal. He made numerous appearances, for example, when Martha Stewart went to jail (and when she got out).

As the segment opened, Cavuto read Vitter's statement, the text of which appeared on screen. It ended with: "David Vitter (R-LA)," but if you blinked, you missed it. If you were looking away, you missed it. If you were daydreaming or were in another room, you missed it. Cavuto didn't read that part, the part about Vitter being a Republican, and at no time during the segment did he say he was one.

You can be sure that if Vitter were a Democrat, Cavuto would work the word "Democrat" in wherever he could, as many times as he could, as loudly as he could, so his audience was absolutely, positively clear as to his party affiliation.

Today's coverage reminded me of the day the news about Mark Foley broke. I was watching Cavuto at that moment and was struck then as to how different Fox's coverage would have been that day had Mark Foley been a Democrat.

4. All the Media reported it so matter of factly in tone
--Oh yes Blitzer did do more in depth(sorry Wolfe)

AC figures that if Clinton did it--then everyone else is clear,

If this were a Democrat---Breathless tones of consternation would
be heard far and near.

PPersonally, I do not like this type of news. Sticking their nose
into peoples personal life is not my cup of tea. As long as GOD,
Guns and Gays and Abortion are the guideposts for morality,
it will be around.
