Josh Marshall gives us good spin on this filibuster of the Iraq vote
The Republicans -- even ones who say they're against escalation -- are using the filibuster to prevent the senate from opposing the president's war policy. That simple. That's all this is about. Every Republican vote here is for a free hand for the president in Iraq.

Both sides try to spin these things to their own advantage. Sometimes they make them sound simpler than they are. But this one's just clear. They're using the filibuster to protect the president's war policy.

Everyone voting today to shut this down "voted to support President Bush's escalation in Iraq."

that includes Joe Lieberman who voted with the GOPers on this.

3. Exactly Right
Even though this is merely a non-binding resolution, the GOPers could not stand to have a debate on it.

They make me sick.

7. I know it is stating the obvious, but the GOP echo chamber is already
muddying up the waters. Pundits are out there right now trying to spin this as a GOP win over dumb dems.

We just need to keep stating the obvious and keep it simple

Everyone voting today to shut this down "voted to support President Bush's escalation in Iraq."

6. Well, maybe that's the effect of it.
But Hagel and Warner have been blowing off for the past 3 weeks about how stupid that policy is and how they'll support the "Anti-Surge" Resolution.

So what turned them around? McConnell threaten to show those pictures of them with Senate pages?

I don't get it.

8. The GOP thinks they can keep the spin going their way
Their pundits are already saying the GOPers are winning against the Democratic majority. Hagel and Warner believe the GOP can keep the lid on this.

Dems need to get the spin out there: Everyone voting today to shut this down "voted to support President Bush's escalation in Iraq." Which includes Hagel and Warner.
