Social Conservatives and the 'christian' Right itself don't have the guts to END abortion
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 08:25 PM by ck4829
I say END because that is different that 'ban'. Sure, they want to ban it, but even after it is banned, will abortions stop? No, they will still be around, they will just be unsafe for poor women. Is that really how 'Compassionate' Conservatives want to be portrayed? Do they actually want to be viewed in history as uncaring of poor women?

That is why to END abortion, it must be rendered UNNECESSARY.

And that would require causing changes in our society, Social Progressivism, something that I believe that the Right Wing is incapable of doing. Ironically for the Social Conservatives, to eliminate abortion, one must discard traditional values on several issues.

To end Abortion, here is what a nation must do:
Eliminate economic inequality
Provide government funded access to birth control
Provide quality sex education (The confusion MUST be removed out of sex)
Remove the stigma out of being pregnant

A lot of radical changes will have to occur if abortion is truly to be eliminated. It may mean that the US will have to become a welfare state. I would support that.

But, would the Social Conservatives support the creation of a welfare state in the US, even if abortion could be made unnecessary in the process, would they really go for that?

I think not, and that is why the Right Wing has no guts when it comes to abortion.

1. I had thought of a compromise
Say there would be no abortions, with the usual exceptions that even right wingers agree on - rape and health of mother - (makes the anti-choicers happy) but that there would be a national health care plan with free birth control, and a bottom level welfare state - just plain take from the rich and give to the poor who had the children and were under the povery line (makes the liberals and socialists happy). So the pro-choicers have to give up the choice and the antis would have to provide for the welfare state they so despise. But each would get something major, too.

3. To add to your list
Must raise tax money to support women and the children they choose to keep.

4. Every single 'compromise' I've seen disregards a woman's
mental health.
