Cops: Mom threw baby at car
In the old days it used to be a frying pan....

ORANGE COUNTY - -An east Orange County mother was arrested after witnesses told authorities she threw her 2-month-old baby at a moving car, according to a sheriff's report released Friday.

Eva Platt, 31, was arguing with the child's father, Tony Licon-Diaz, at their Sherman Street home about 1:45 a.m. Thursday. Witnesses told deputies that Platt had been drinking when Licon-Diaz left the house and got in a car to leave. She tossed the baby after him, and the child struck the closed window and fell to the ground.

The baby was taken to Florida Hospital East with a skull fracture and bleeding in the brain.

Platt faces one count each of aggravated child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was being held on $100,000 bail.

12. Sounds like there was more to the story that wasn't reported.
Maybe they were drinking with a teenager or something??

16. In some states, the charge is used any time a child is placed in an inappropriate situation.
It's a very BROAD charge; it could simply refer to having
the child at a party where everyone was drunk and violent.

25. She was drunk or had open alcohol in the presence of a minor (the baby)???
If that's the case then the charge seems like a stretch to me.

11. I have a five-week-old.
This absolutely sickens me.

Can I be alone in a room with that "mother," and I use the term loosely, for about 10 minutes? I may be small, but I bet you I can show her what it feels like to be flung at a solid object.

:grr:

14. She needs to be sterilized so she can never have another child
ANY person who can harm a child to that extent should be forced to be sterilized - I know how this sounds but I don't care.

flame away if you want but they immediately forfeit any right to have another child if they are capabale of harming one in that way.

15. I'm gonna need to be talked out of feeling the same way.
Yeah, there has to be a line drawn between "suspected" child abuse that ends up putting a kid in foster care versus blatant child abuse. A fractured skull etc, and witnesses seems good enough to me for the moment to advocate for sterilization.

18. Poor little thing!!!!!
I hope the poor baby will be OK. Bleeding in the brain doesn't sound good....If the baby survives, I hope he is taken from that 'mother' and given a good home, with adoptive parents who can treat him well.

21. I feel sorry for the social services employees who will have to work with the parents.
I work in foster care here and media cases always suck. Of course, mom will probably not get out of jail so it may not be so bad. I hope the baby recovers with no long term effects.

26. Some people just aren't fit to have children
It's a pity all that's required for parenthood is functioning reproductive organs and the desire to use them. Children deserve so much more.
