1. Stephanie Miller mentioned Embarrass MN on her show the other day
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 09:56 PM by rocknation
So the name of the town ISN'T a joke?

And I am reminded of a ski weekend during which it was 13 below on Saturday and 23 above on Sunday--still well below freezing, but that Sunday felt like summertime!

8. Why would it be a joke?
It's from the French "to hinder" or "hinderance." It's a tough river to canoe.

3. It was Satan's annex in LA today...
Hotter than hell here-
That EVIL sort of hot that makes
people dangerous behind the wheel.

Lordy, what have we done to this poor old earth.

5. Have you been out to Joshua Tree lately?
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 10:00 PM by BeHereNow
Pioneer Town is one of my old hang outs-
I am curious as to how the desert is doing after the fires
last year.
I haven't had time to drive out to see for myself-
So what's the news?

9. Just like the old days, for me
I used to live in Winnipeg, Manitoba (home of Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive). -42 used to be average February day.

Got your car plugged in tonight?

11. Minneapolis today was -17 temp and w/chill about 22 below
Coldest in ten years, but I remember weeks of this weather 10-15 years ago.

I have actually experienced -75 below TEMP in Alaska in 1976. We took extreme measures to keep trucks running. If your bare hand touched metal at that temp, it would WELD together instantly. Ralphy never saw temps like THAT!!!

I actually enjoy when the temp drops well below zero. The sun still shines and the air is so clear...

15. I Used To Live In El Cajon
It's always hotter there than elsewhere in the San Diego Area. There are no trees to speak of, except those planted in yards, and most of the yards are filled with rocks. El Cajon Blvd (I drove it about 8 months ago when I was back for a visit) is a big stretch of concrete, street, sidewalk and buildings. I'd walk outside and be gasping in minutes, whereas if I went elsewhere (downtown or to Balboa Park or Pacific Beach, or Rancho Santa Fe) it would be a lovely day.

Ah, memories of when I was young, poor, and making my own way.

27. Hey -- Ocean Beach!
I lived there from 1980 'til '83 in a little apartment right off Sunset Cliffs. My dad was the manager...though he didn't give me any breaks on the rent. Loved it there. When I visited this last summer, though, I didn't recognize a thing. Who built all those fancy-schmancy houses? Gosh, turn your back for 20 yrs and they change the whole place around! I had my first date with my now-husband of 18 yrs right there at the movie theater. ::Sigh::

Of course is a real town. Brings to mind 2 other real mn towns, with this unfortunate real headline in a local paper,

Fertile woman killed in Climax. True story, you could look it up

22. I would rather be in CA or FL right now
Where I am it's -8 degrees with the wind-chill (and it's windy out almost every day, so the actual 12 degrees-above-zero temperature means shit.)
