Friendly fire video on The Sun (UK) website -- US gov't would not release it
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 03:36 AM by magellan
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007060133,00.html

This is the 2003 incident when two A10s fired twice on British ground forces, killing L/Cpl Matthew Hull. Along with the video there's a partial transcript of the communications between the pilots, the errors made, and background on how the US government, with the help of the Ministry of Defence, did NOT want the video released for the inquest currently happening in the UK. They're fired up over the Sun having it. Go now before the video's pulled.

edited to clarify this isn't only a video

2. It's just going on 8:45 am in the UK
The Sun is probably getting a lot of hits to their server since they're the only media to have it so far. They've said they're going to share it with other outlets.

4. No problem
You must be talking about CNNi. I can practically guarantee if I turn to our CNN it'll be repeats from last night, and if they do eventually cover this story it'll be to trash the UK press for releasing the video.

I say good on The Sun. Americans will never know how we got into this mess in the first place if we don't see the mistakes made along the way -- mistakes that began with and echo BushCo's initial fabrication of an enemy.

7. Thanks, slowry, and welcome
I was just reading the comments out there. The ones defending these pilots with "it's war, shit happens" don't get it -- there's an inquest going on. The Hull family deserves to know exactly what "shit" happened and what, if anything, the US military has done to discipline the pilots and ensure this doesn't happen again. Instead the US gov't has been stonewalling on the entire subject, not even providing details about the circumstances that led to L/Cpl Hull's death that day.

10. No, this happened in 2003
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 05:04 AM by magellan
That's how long the US has been blocking the details and the video evidence.

add: in fact this incident happened on March 23, 2003 -- day seven of the invasion.

13. Reservists with no prior combat experience
They were so eager to kill the enemies Bush** had dreamed up that they didn't wait for fire control to give them the order. Another unfortunate example (among thousands) of why it's so dangerous to let your government tell you what to believe.
