No snow, maybe a flurry tomorrow. The Potomac was frozen over solid this morning, and that almost never happens. Now it has patches of melt but still lots of ice.

Ten above when I left for work this morning. One of my co-workers had to have a big toenail removed in the emergency room over the weekend. She showed up wearing sandals yesterday -- it was too painful to even put a sock over it. She's wearing a sock today, though, so I guess she's doing better. I said, "Well, you sure picked the right day for it!"

10. So Texas: Goes from 40 to 70 today, but this is the most consistently
cold winter I can remember since I've lived here (most of my life). We've had long sleeve weather or coat weather all of Christmas through now, and it is wetter than usual. January was mostly gray and wet.

But I'd rather have the consistently cold weather than trying to figure out if I should wear cashmere or tank tops.

It was supposed to be much colder but some clouds rolled in last night and kept us from seeing -10 or even colder. It took a long time to get here but winter is firmly entrenched.

Right now it's about 42 and foggy. We seem to be getting into an early spring. Keep in mind that our winter started very early this year. We had snow and unusually cold temps in November.

we broke freezing yesterday for the first time in a week. Today it is supposed to get to 49 degrees then 26 tomorrow and another below freezing week. I say thank goodness, we have winter again here. Sounds miserable where you are! We used to have temps like that but it has been a long time, 4 years maybe, since we have had that for any extended time.

27. dismal snowpack for Northern CA -significant rain finally predicted
http://www.sierrasun.com/article/20070205/NEWS/70204008
And the survey says — dismal snowpack
February 5, 2007

RENO (AP) — The Sierra Nevada snowpack is dismal at best, according to monthly snow surveys by hydrologists.
Scientists measured about 2.5 feet of snow near the Mount Rose summit southwest of Reno. Last year at this time, there was about 15 feet.
Water content amounted to 8.4 inches, about 32 percent of normal.
“It's not good, not good at all,” Dan Greenlee, a hydrologist with the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service, said Thursday. “It's a pretty sad situation right now.”
California Department of Water Resources found snowpack water content averaging only 43 percent of normal over the 400-mile-long mountain range.

Statement as of 5:30 AM PST on February 06, 2007

... Wet weather to return to northern California Wednesday...

The persistent dry weather pattern over northern California is
expected to end Wednesday. The unusually strong high pressure ridge
that has kept the area dry for the last week has shifted east of the
state. This shift will allow Pacific storms to reach northern
California. These systems are expected to tap into abundant
subtropical moisture so could bring significant precipitation at
times through the weekend.

Precipitation will begin Wednesday as the first weather system makes
its way into the area. Although much of northern California should
receive precipitation... rain and mountain snowfall amounts are
expected to be light with this initial system. Heavier precipitation
is expected on Thursday and Friday as wetter systems move through
the north state. Weather systems will continue to pivot through the
region over the weekend and possibly into early next week. Several
inches of rain and high elevation snowfall are expected over
northern California... especially from Thursday into the weekend.

Snow levels are expected to begin around 4500 to 6000 feet on
Wednesday and rise to 6000 to 7500 feet on Thursday and Friday as
warmer air from the subtropics moves into the area. Snow levels will
then lower again over the weekend but generally remain at or above
5000 feet over the Sierra.

39. Yep, indeed that's true. But move to Dallas; It's even funnier.
A light dusting of snow is enough to cancel events, delay schools, and cause the news to go into 24/7 "Winter Blast" mode. And of course, the bread and milk.

However, the bread and milk doesn't have quite the same cache here. There's so many grocery stores in the area and a lesser population, so they don't run out. In DC, you claw your way through crowds and traffic to get to the grocery store at 8:30pm before a snowstorm and the shelves are already cleared. It's a riot! :)

I recall the 1996 back to back snowstorms in DC which caused nearly 3 feet of snow. Everyone was snowed in. And the news ran out of things to say and resorted to taking the most boring callers who had contracted "cabin fever." "Do you have cabin fever? What are you doing today? How are you faring?" and on and on. :eyes:

The only thing that worries me is tomorrow morning since its been awhile since we have had snow on a workday. People forget quickly how to drive in the snow here....

Sunny 25...feels like 10.

Still barely more then a flurry of snow all winter.

It was springtime weather until a couple weeks ago. My flowering trees were budding. I had about 5 bluejays and 4 Cardinals all over the yard, so I went to get them some food to help them during the confusion. Then overnight it dropped to about 5 degrees and its been cold ever since.

Still...no....snow.

This is very, very bad for us.
