Impeachment is a political act. With those kind of numbers I think it is possible.

The war in Iraq is so unpopular that it is time to cut off the funding.

Playing politics and more comprises should be "off the table".

1. In McMurtry's novel and the subsequent film, Hud is a compelling
figure.

You watch him and pay attention to him, but finally, Melvyn Douglas tells him, "That's the problem with you, Hud -- you just don't give a damn."

That's the problem with Dubya's relationship with public service. He just doesn't give a damn. He's always going to have 20-30% or so of people who still want to hang with Hud.

The rest of the country left a long time ago, destination 2008.

2. Your absolutely correct. Bush just doesn't give a fuck what his approval is!

It's all about war for gigantic profits, and fuck the workers, the poor and soldiers. Bush is going to continue the same republican ideology, agenda and policy for his "people" the corporations and the super rich ...ANYTHING... health care, troop withdrawal, stopping the outsourcing of jobs, that detracts from the wealthy making & stealing more money he will fight against, Bush the ultimate puppet (who thinks he's king because they keep telling him so) on a string to the ones with real power!

And that frustrates many around here, who stupidly believe if Bush's poll numbers get low enough he'll have to change...WRONG!

BTW -I love Hud have it on DVD along with another great McMurtry book turned into a film The Last Picture Show.

5. Hi, LaPera.
I had the chance to meet McMurtry once and like a fool, I forgot to ask him all the things I wanted to. He is very laid back and wildly intelligent -- I really couldn't keep up with him. A genius and a productive genius at that.

Agree with you on HUD and THE LAST PICTURE SHOW. McMurtry's writing just turns into sensational films -- very watchable, often hilarious, often profoundly sad. I always come out of the theater feeling as if I've been slapped around by angels. He and Diana Osama (I think) also wrote the screenplay for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.

Dubya doesn't know what he doesn't know. That makes him wobbly and insecure. He pretends to have God by the shorthairs when he hasn't grown his own yet. I don't trust this president to be an adult. He so greatly resembles the Hud character that it's frightening. The swagger, the pseydo-cowboy bullshit... the whole package.
