Heard it here first: Gates, the new SOD is in over his head on Iraq and Defense matters!
Here are some headlines form my Internets:

Defense chief: Iraq draw down could begin this year

Robert Gates denies new security plan is "the last chance" for Iraq

Gates told lawmakers the buildup in troops is "not the last chance" to succeed in Iraq and "I would be irresponsible if I weren't thinking about what the alternatives might be."

MILITARY MEMO; Hawkish Gates Sees More Force as Leverage

THE REACH OF WAR; White House Gears Up to Sell Plan for Troop Increase in Iraq

Mr. Gates said the United States would have to maintain a military presence in Iraq “for years.”

Mr. Gates said most of the proposals (relating to cost of the war) had been prepared before he took office and referred questions to a financial official.

Responding to Senator Kennedy's question about honesty regarding the # of troops to be added:
Mr. Gates conceded that some additional troops might be needed to support those in active combat.

Gates disputes surge is 'last chance'

And this goes on and on...All of the above statements make clear that Gates is at best a

Schizophrenic, or he is way way overwhelmed by this job.

I am tempted to say: Goodness gracious!!!

2. But neither goodness or graciousness have anything to do with it.
Mental illness, on the other hand -- that seems endemic in this bunch.
