It sounds like Republicans think that they are still in the Majority
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 06:47 PM by ck4829
Republican senators agreed to make judicial nominees one of their top priorities at a one-day retreat held Friday at the Library of Congress before a meeting with Bush at the White House. Other key concerns, which senators designated in questionnaires they submitted to the Republican leadership, are fiscal policy, taxes, budget, healthcare, energy security, immigration reform and national security.

“Senate Republicans expect that Bush be treated the same way during the last two years of his presidency as each of the last three presidents were treated in the last two years of theirs when the Senate was controlled by the opposition party,” McConnell said yesterday. (You are all going to get treated the way you treated us, DEAL WITH IT)

“That’s a recognition that the best leverage we have isn’t on the committee but on the floor, the ability to use leverage on the floor to insist on an up-or-down vote for judges,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), vice chairman of the GOP conference and a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. (We don't even have to let them come to comittee, HAHA)

Arlen Specter said, “Chairman (Patrick) Leahy (D-Vt.) has been entirely cooperative in moving judges,” he said. “The indicators are that Democrats will be responsive to continuing the confirmation of judges. I’m anticipating a cooperative approach.”

1. So this means we can impeach the bastard, right?

3. HA!
“Senate Republicans expect that Bush be treated the same way during the last two years of his presidency as each of the last three presidents were treated in the last two years of theirs when the Senate was controlled by the opposition party"

Does that mean we get to impeach, like they did with Clinton?

11. Behind the scences
I don't know how weak or strong and wise Reid is, but in front of a tv camera (like today on C-Span), he looks too timid to me. I understand the need for civility, but he can flush the condescending flattery. I wish they all would.

12. I said that he wasn't the right one to be the leader ...
before the elections last year and some here went crazy. He sounds timid and he always tries to play both sides like he did a few weeks ago, he said something that he later found out that the party disagreed with then he tried to change it...

7. Unfortunately, for the intent of most substantive legislation,
they are in the majority. Although we have a putative two seat majority in the senate, one of those seats is occupied by a member who is still in the hospital, outcome indeterminate, another seat is an independent and a third occupied by a supposed independent who votes with the repulsives. They have forty nine seats, a fiftieth in Lieberman and the president of the senate, on tie-breaking measures, in Dick Cheney.

With a crazy bastard in the white house, the only real advantage we have is the fairly comfortable margin in the house although a substantial number of those who call the democratic banner their own are "conservative" dems. This does not auger well for thoughtful, responsible policy making.
