Garrison Keillor on Hillary:
I'm not a Hillary fan myself, but Keillor makes an interesting (and very funny) point:

"One of Hillary Clinton's visible assets is the army of enemies she has accumulated, the carpet-chewers of AM radio and the right-wing trolls who go berserk in their webby caverns whenever Madam comes trotting over the bridge. One could not hope for better enemies. It is like playing softball against drunks. They illustrate everything about Republican dominion that the country has come to loathe, the blithering arrogance, the cynicism and corruption, and this wretched war that drags on and on."

Can you be defined by the nature of your enemies? Could be...

1. I wonder if there's any Dem candidate they have kind words for?
I recall the r/w drooling at the prospect of Hillary a year or so ago.

2. Not likely -- they'll enthusiastically trash and swiftboat any Dem candidate.
But there's something about Hillary, especially, that makes the veins in their temples throb and spittle fly as they rant and froth and spew.

9. She is a strong, independent woman. That bunch of cowards are
afraid of women like her. Little wifey is supposed to bow down and obey because she is weaker than them. That is what they have against her.

35. They drooled......
....at the prospect of Hillary a year ago because they were 100% certain that she would lose. They didn't believe she had the slightest chance of winning. With Hillary as the democratic candidate they'd have an easy election....just sit back and win. Now they aren't so sure......

Watch Tucker Carlson who is a true Hillary hater. He used to confidently laugh her off...now he's startled whenever someone supports her or talks of her in a positive way. He has insisted that women hate Hillary (bragging that his wife does) so he was a bit dumbfounded recently because she's getting such high poll ratings from women.

Birds of a feather flock together?

Hillary is not stupid. Show her The Money!

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

administration. She has always been a very strong supporter of free trade and this policy, that passed with mostly Republican votes, helped her former company out greatly.

Also the Clinton support of mergers of big business, rather than support of competition, especially in the media industry, was another policy that helped set up the situation that we have today.

37. Consider this.....
There is nothing wrong with free trade, capitalism or corporations. All these things have done a lot to make this a prosperous country, build up the middle class, etc....that is, when it was balanced and in moderation...and when all aspects of our economy worked for the good of the whole. That is not what we are experiencing now with this administration. The neo-cons have destroyed everything. What we have now is a policy of pure greed.

Capitalism is when the CEO makes 40 times more than the lowest paid employee. When they are making 400 hundred times more it's something else: criminal, immoral greed.

39. Free trade is a policy that was written for the sole purpose of driving down wages/salaries/
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 01:54 PM by w4rma
/environmental regulations/worker safety regulations. That is the true result of free trade. Noone can compete against that one authoritarian nation that signed a free trade agreement but doesn't care one whit about about the general populace.

Note, I have no problem with the concept of capitalism or corporations as long as the priority is on enforcing an environment of competition on a level playing field.

29. What do you mean 'will'? Bill already sold us into poverty.
Bill Clinton supported NAFTA and CAFTA.
I fell outta the middle class in the Clinton years, and so have several of my overeducated friends.
Being unemployed for several years in the 90s, and severely underemployed too, has reduced my opinion of Bill Clinton. No protectionism for the middle class or our jobs that were shipped out.

America didn't care about protecting the hardworking, bright, skilled people's jobs.
We're turning into another Mexico.

36. And this "feeling" is based on what????
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 10:26 AM by magnolia
Read her book.

It is very likely that Hillary will be our candidate and I'm not saying that because she would be my choice. It's too early for me to have a choice. But all those who are constantly trashing her need to consider this. Look at all the reasons you don't like her. How many of those things are based on fact or evidence. "Having a feeling" is not evidence. Are Democrats trashing her for the same reason that Republicans were drooling over her....because they think she can't win?????

Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 11:03 PM by ocelot
"As a clean and articulate man, I was surprised to see the Biden for President movement run over a bicycle while backing out of the driveway and then take out the gladiolas, but there it was and the distinguished gentleman from Delaware had to go on Comedy Central to explain himself and then clarify his explanations. All of us little macacas derive some pleasure from this, of course, seeing big guys stumble. It's Darwinism in action. Your head gets too big and your pants too tight and you trip and fall down."

22. I also love how, even when he is critical of someone, he isn't mean.
It's interesting how he manages to observe people's foibles and weaknesses in such an affectionately funny manner without ridicule or looking down on them.

His taste in musical guests, even for music that I don't identify with, is absolutely superb. He has often opened my eyes to artistry I would have ignored otherwise.

I think he is very good for everyone who listens to his show.

Hare Krsna!

hillary's not my own #1 choice, my point was only that the republicans would HATE it more than any other democratic candidate.

I've heard of chewing up the scenary to describe outrageous, over the top, blow-hardedness - but carpet chewer? Considering what that's usually a derogatory term for, I find it's use here a little bizarre.
