Independent Lens - Billy Strayhorn.
"He could hear around a corner."

Now - watch the story of the great composer Billy Strayhorn on PBS. I have been fascinated by Strayhorn ever since I learned he had written "Lush Life" at age 19. An overlooked genius and a great story for every person who walks the American street. Born in dire poverty, taught himself music and bought his own piano with the wages he earned as a soda jerk, he never thought of music as a career until he ran into Ellington. "And that's a long story..."

Watch Now.
