Top Federal Prosecutor Removed To Make Room For Former ROVE Aide
Deputy Attorney General Defends Prosecutor Firings

By Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, February 7, 2007; Page A03

A senior Justice Department official acknowledged yesterday that a top federal prosecutor in Arkansas was removed to make room for a former aide to presidential adviser Karl Rove, but he said that six other U.S. attorneys were fired for "performance-related" issues.

In often contentious testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty also disputed Democrats' allegations that the firings appeared to be aimed at rewarding Republican allies and at avoiding the Senate's role in confirming U.S. attorney appointments.

................

Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said the firings "reek of politics" and warned McNulty that the panel would consider issuing subpoenas for job evaluations of the fired prosecutors unless the Justice Department agrees to hand them over. Justice officials said they will work to accommodate the request.

"What happened here doesn't sound like business as usual," Schumer said. "Even the hiring and firing of our top federal prosecutors has become infused and corrupted with political, rather than prudent, considerations."

5. Yes all who voted for it should be ashamed
But to be fair, this particular little gem was put into the final version by Arlen Specter, without the knowledge of most if not all of the Democrats, including members of the Judiciary Committee.

So when the final vote was taken, only a few Republicans knew that this part was there.

15. Yes they should be ashamed...
they should also be in jail.

The Patriot Act is in clear violation of the 4th Ammendment. Every member of Congress who signed it, violated their oath of office.

4. Front page news in Memphis
This story was on the front page very top story in today's Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper. It has a lot of readers in eastern Arkansas. I was surprised to see it on the front page though. They usually bury these stories on page 5.

14. Isn't it obvious?
The largest theft in history is now being investigated by Mr. Waxman, Paul Bremer is having a hard time explaining what happened to 360 tons of cash, and we are now learning that the Army suppressed facts showing that depleted uranium munitions are going to be the worst environmental disaster since Chernobyl.
