Fed up and pissed off
So, who's running this country, anyway? Is it still that pack of clowns who've shoved the crazy train throttle to 'full speed ahead' and are trying to smash us all into smithereens against the rock wall of imperial pretensions?

Apparently so. The Republican congresscritters should be so neck-deep in investigations that they're afraid to utter a peep in both the House and the Senate. I've said from the beginning that the only way the Dems would be able to gain control was to be willing to get down and dirty and start seriously twisting some arms. Otherwise the Republican habit of marching in lock-step with the dictates of party loyalty was going to make everything ten times as difficult as it might be.

Is it that they're too nice? Or that they don't want to dig too deeply into the corruption in our government for fear of finding that their comrades aren't as squeaky clean as they should be?

What the hell is going on?

The Krazy Klown Klub attached to the White House is continuing blithely on its way, ignoring reality, and hoping that throwing more soldiers into the meatgrinder will somehow miraculously lead to victory in a war we shouldn't have started in the first place, while at the same time hoping that shaking a nearly empty fist at Iran might do some good.

And who's working to stop them? Answer...not nearly enough of those who have the power to do it.

The American people didn't elect a bunch of shrinking violets to office. We elected people we hoped would do everything in their power to put an end to this madness.

Or has it gone too far? Are the corporatists so firmly in charge that nothing matters more than the status quo? Is there no worse crime than rocking the boat, threatening their power base, the source of their campaign war chests?

So much for the land of the free.

As for those who would argue that the two parties aren't the same... No, one party is actually effective. Effective at pulling off really fucked up shit, but effective nonetheless. The other party? They operate like a bunch of startled squirrels, afraid to make a move lest the predators find them.

And people wonder why the majority of Americans don't vote.

Maybe it's because unless you're a corporate lackey, there's too few politicians willing to fight for what you need.

That's not to say there aren't some good ones out there. It's just too bad they have to share the stage with a bunch of chickenshit posers.

Land of the Free, my ass. It's not even the Home of the Brave.

1. all those NSA wire taps not for catching terra-suspects, but for blackmail
AG goin around firing federal prosecutors who are diligant and replacing them with party loyalist... Offering GOP Congresscum some 'protection' and assuring compliance with the party line?

Yeah, all likely.

Blackmail is a sure-fire way to power in D.C. All those wire taps are NOT about catching terrorists. Get the goods on everyone and that buys a lotta power, baby.

Winning through intimidation. Look at McCain... and remember how easy he got off in the Keating Five mess. He is finding out paybacks cost your soul.

2. Of course they are still running the country. They have a great
deal of power that does not just disappear when they lose the house and senate. We now share some of the power but if you are under the impression that we have enough power to just sweep them away you are wrong. We can control some of the money but only the money they get in the future - todays budget was appropriated two years ago. We can investigate and subpoena people and papers. We can use our oversight to watchdog the administrative branch and we can refuse to accept his nominees. We hold the senate by one or two votes and that will not override a veto. We are in a good fighting position but we are far from the conquerers riding in on a white horse. Most of us fighting for our country here on DU knew that even when we gained control we would have a long hard fight on our hands to restore democracy to our nation. We are busy lobbying our pug legislature to recognize the will of the people and cooperate with the Democratic Party. NOW.
