Bill Gates Busted
Hi,

I wrote a diary over on dailykos proving that Bill Gates just lied to the Press and to congress
on his lobbying efforts.

Thanks.

1. Interesting quote
Do you remember the IT meltdown? I do. I knew many people my age who were slaughtered. Massive layoffs and reduced pay scale hit around 2001-2002. Suddenly a job that had paid $70K was only paying about $30K. So did companies stop needing IT workers? I don't think so.

The Las Colinas, TX Kroger store has the biggest local selection of Indian food including a special cooler just for yogurt and fresh flat bread several time a day. Why? Because of the large number of Indian people living in the area working for local companies.

I've seen a lot more Indian-centric foodstuffs sold at local grocers as well.

Why the special catering? And how long will that continue once the Indians realize they're being bamboozled?

And if we all got jobs in India, would we get treated with fresh pizzas, hot dogs, and ice cold coca cola several times a day?

2. Raises hand.. I was 'slaughtered' in 2001
Went from $90k to $35k in 1 day.

IT workers need a union, badly. We're shit on daily, and we're just expected to take it with a smile.

You're not alone believe me, but we need to publicize this so we can get some real action.

9. Go get 'um!
I bet that if National Security and corporate espionage were really an issue, we'd keep these jobs here, rather than send them overseas where we have absolutely no control over good practices.

6. I'm convinced that corporations were pissed by their Y2K expenses and decided to screw IT workers.
At that point, HB1 visas began to flow like water and jobs left the country, with that giant sucking sound Ross Perot spoke of regarding NAFTA.

8. You all should know that the older Senate immigration bill sought to get rid of H1B visa quotas!
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 07:09 PM by calipendence
The one that McCain sponsored that rivals the Sensenbrenner House bill that so many of the Democrats have "supported" also has a plank to get rid of H-1B visa quotas. If that doesn't expose it for the corporatist bill it is, I don't know what does! The Democrats need to have a "third option" for immigration that protects jobs and our borders, but doesn't do it in a xenophobic or costly corporate serving way!

10. Protecting the borders is a red herring. Severely punish anybody hiring illegals
That makes the border issue is moot.

11. That's Thom Hartman's suggestion and that IS the way to solve this!
He says the problem isn't "illegal immigration", but "illegal employment", and that the real culprits are those that are hiring illegals and allowed/encouraged to do so by the present system. Those same interests also encourage the Fox and Calderon's of places like Mexico to keep their economy in substandard state with very skewed wealth statistics to provide a better "starving workforce" for our corporations to exploit. That has to stop as well!

13. Dems
Yeah, I think there are a lot of Democrats waking up to the reality of the Corporate Cheap labor lobby especially with immigration.

H-1B is a NIV or non-immigrant Visa and I do think Dems are slowly waking up to the realities of immigration policy being manipulated as a cheap labor vehicle.
