Vanity Fair: Bush: The ISG report is a "flaming turd"
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2007/03/whitehouse200703?printable=true¤tPage=all

The same neocon ideologues behind the Iraq war have been using the same tactics—alliances with shady exiles, dubious intelligence on W.M.D.—to push for the bombing of Iran. As President Bush ups the pressure on Tehran, is he planning to double his Middle East bet?

What's less understood is that the same tactics have been in play with Iran. Once again, neocon ideologues have been flogging questionable intelligence about W.M.D. Once again, dubious Middle East exile groups are making the rounds in Washington—this time urging regime change in Syria and Iran. Once again, heroic new exile leaders are promising freedom.

On December 6, the Iraq Study Group finally released its report, "The Way Forward—A New Approach." Bipartisan reports tend to be bland affairs, but this one was different. Describing the situation in Iraq as "grave and deteriorating," the I.S.G. report did not shy away from pointing out that the new Iraqi Army, the police force, and even Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki often showed greater loyalty to their ethnic identities than to the ideal of a nonsectarian, democratic Iraq. Ultimately, the report concluded that sending more American soldiers to Iraq would not resolve what were fundamentally political problems. The subtext was clear: America's policies in Iraq had failed. It was time for the administration to cut its losses. A Gallup poll from December 12 showed that, among people who had an opinion on the subject, five out of six supported implementing the report's recommendations.

The only American whose opinion mattered, however, was not impressed. Bush, Salon reported, slammed the I.S.G. study as "a flaming turd." If Rice even delivered Scowcroft's message, it had fallen on deaf ears.

1. Another ominous snip from the article - Smirk has switched to Strat-Com
Another serious development is the growing role of the U.S. Strategic Command (StratCom), which oversees nuclear weapons, missile defense, and protection against weapons of mass destruction. Bush has directed StratCom to draw up plans for a massive strike against Iran, at a time when CentCom has had its hands full overseeing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. "Shifting to StratCom indicates that they are talking about a really punishing air-force and naval air attack ," says Lang.

33. I Agree, And We All Know It
What my question is, though, is why is he still permitted to soil the Oval Office with his odious presence?

There's a "flaming turd" indeed, but it ain't the report.

How much more lunacy must Bush thrust upon this planet before he is stopped? Why are there no riots in the streets? Why hasn't there been a march on the White House, demanding that the lunatic be hoisted up by his lying petard and shitcanned?

5. RWN has you posted as "un-American"....?????
The most hateful website I've ever visited, rightwingnews (alias hatefulnazineocons) has some of our responses posted as "un-American" and they make a display of how we support the enemy, etc. Such BS.

I would love to snippet their posts for their hateful, bigoted and angry message that they are responsible for. I've been booted from the site four times, under different log in names, for disagreeing with their comments. Such a fascist organization to be calling someone ELSE "un-American"? They are the cancer that is bringing this country down.

10. In spite of what others think of Bush
I am completely confident that he will choose whatever action is the most fucked up and destructive. He will manage to make any crisis many times worse than anybody ever thought possible. He will make things magnitudes of times worse. This is his life story. This just might be the colossal mess that even his daddy, and his daddy's rich friends, can't fix.

He will, unless stopped, attack Iran, plunge the world into chaos, then hand the whole...to use his own expression...flaming turd off to his Democratic successor. This is his pattern, and I don't see him deviating from it now.

11. This article should be required reading for every American....
IMHO we are on the edge of a very steep cliff, and Bush is pushing us ever closer to that edge.

I hope that Democrats and Republicans can form enough of a majority that they can 'reel in' Bush before he starts the next conflict with Iran and Syria.

Gonna be hard to put the genie back in the bottle once Iran is attacked.

remember he thinks with his gut. this man has no remorse or insight, we are dealing with a psychotic man, and the sooner Congress knows that they are, the better. This man has got to be stopped. Or will they just let him bomb Iran on false information, it will be too late by then.

24. sounds like a done deal.
:scared:

Moreover, he continues, Bush can count on the military to carry out such a mission even without congressional authorization. "If they write a plan like that and the president issues an execute order, the forces will execute it. He's got the power to do that as commander-in-chief. We set that up during the Cold War. It may, after the fact, be considered illegal, or an impeachable offense, but if he orders them to do it, they will do it."

Lang also notes that the recent appointment of a naval officer, Admiral William Fallon, to the top post at CentCom may be another indication that Bush intends to bomb Iran. "It makes very little sense that a person with this background should be appointed to be theater commander in a theater in which two essentially 'ground' wars are being fought, unless it is intended to conduct yet another war which will be different in character," he wrote in his blog. "The employment of Admiral Fallon suggests that they are thinking about something that is not a ground campaign."

Pentagon report confirms Iraq/al Qaeda intel was "dubious" -- a "devastating condemnation" of Bush Iraq policy
by Joe in DC - 2/09/2007 08:37:00 AM

A report from the Pentagon's Inspector General used the word "dubious" to describe the intelligence provided by Douglas Feith, an neocon who served as Undersecretary of Defense. Feith basically substituted the political agenda of George Bush for the work of the U.S. intelligence community as he tried to manufacture links between al Qaeda and Iraq. So much of what we all need to know about the Bush Administration is summed up in the response from Feith to The Washington Post:
In a telephone interview yesterday, Feith emphasized the inspector general's conclusion that his actions, described in the report as "inappropriate," were not unlawful.
Inappropriate, not unlawful. Tell that to the families of dead soldiers here or any of the Iraqis who've lost family members.

The new standard for the Bush team is, hey, we didn't break the law, we just lied and manipulated evidence so we'd go to war with Iraq -- without a plan. Senator Carl Levin has a more apt description:
"The bottom line is that intelligence relating to the Iraq-al-Qaeda relationship was manipulated by high-ranking officials in the Department of Defense to support the administration's decision to invade Iraq," Levin said yesterday. "The inspector general's report is a devastating condemnation of inappropriate activities in the DOD policy office that helped take this nation to war."
Now, that's an accurate assessment.
