WTF ??? - GOP Senators Opposing Troop Buildup Call Stalemate Over Resolutions 'Unacceptable'
Talk about your flip-flop.

<snip>

WASHINGTON (CNN) Sen. John Warner, R-Virginia, and six other Republican senators who oppose the troop increase in Iraq, sent a letter to Senate Democratic and Republican leaders Wednesday afternoon saying the "current stalemate" over the Iraq resolutions is "unacceptable" and they intend to offer the Levin-Warner resolution "disagreeing" with the increase in troops to future bills coming before the Senate.

"We strongly believe the Senate should be allowed to work its will on our resolution as well as on the concepts brought forward by other senators," Warner said on the Senate floor, reading from the letter. "Monday's procedural vote should not be interpreted as any lessening of our resolve to go forward advocating the concepts" of the resolution.

1. They are attempting...
To hijack the whole megillah. Take ownership and freeze the dems out.

I would hope that is recognized among the members of the majority. I would also hope that Reid has a plan to neuter this craven attempt.

4. More From McClatchy...
<snip>

WASHINGTON - Seven Senate Republicans on Wednesday blasted their own leaders and Democrats for stalling the debate on the resolution to oppose President Bush's plans to send more troops to Iraq, and they vowed in a letter to push through a vote one way or another.

"The current stalemate is unacceptable to us and to the people of this country," said the letter signed by Sens. John Warner of Virginia, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Gordon Smith of Oregon, Norm Coleman of Minnesota and George Voinovich of Ohio. "We will explore all of our options."

Democrats took notice but weren't convinced that the letter was much more than an attempt by the Republicans to protect their re-election prospects.

The group, led by Warner, a respected military veteran, includes moderates and members who are facing re-election in 2008.

2. More likely they are responding to the Moveon campaign
which shows their faces and names them in a public display of shame...

He should recognize what is in play here. After all, these guys all voted against cloture. Warner, against his own frigging resolution.

5. "There seemed to be no use in waiting by the little door,
so she went back to the table, half hoping she might find another key on it, or at any rate a book of rules for shutting people up like telescopes: this time she found a little bottle on it, (`which certainly was not here before,' said Alice,) and round the neck of the bottle was a paper label, with the words `DRINK ME' beautifully printed on it in large letters.

It was all very well to say `Drink me,' but the wise little Alice was not going to do that in a hurry. `No, I'll look first,' she said, `and see whether it's marked "poison" or not'; for she had read several nice little histories about children who had got burnt, and eaten up by wild beasts and other unpleasant things, all because they would not remember the simple rules their friends had taught them: such as, that a red-hot poker will burn you if you hold it too long; and that if you cut your finger very deeply with a knife, it usually bleeds; and she had never forgotten that, if you drink much from a bottle marked `poison,' it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later."
