1. Obama-----here:
Senator Obama (D-IL) is up first. Joe Solmonese asks the forum's first question and it's on what role the church plays in civil marriages. Obama sticks to his support for civil unions, promising to make sure that his White House and Justice Department grants and enforces all the legal rights to committed same-sex couples that come with marriage. Obama says he is a hope-monger.

4. homophobia and the black church:
9:15 PM ET: Jonathan Capehart asks Obama about the effects of homophobia within the black church, a point of concern among many members of the GLBT community. Obama answers that some religious voters "have elevated one line in Romans above the Sermon on the Mount" and closes his answer by pointing to his record of including the GLBT community in his talks not only in front of GLBT audiences but in his stump speeches across the country.

2. Edwards is up now
I'm a little unclear. Are they having discussions with each candidate separately? I like this format. It's a nice change from the usual. Sorry I missed Obama.

11. Edwards also says he was wrong to hide behind his religion to account for his "journey" not yet taki
Sen. Edwards (D-NC) is second and Melissa Etheridge starts it off: "Your wife and I have a lot in common. But her and I very fortunate to afford the best health care."

Joe Solmonese asks a question on the firing of former Largo, FL mayor Susan Stanton. Edwards: "We need powerful employment non-discrimination laws"
Edwards also says he was wrong to hide behind his religion to account for his "journey" not yet taking him to a place that allows him to support same-sex marriages.

12. He was wrong. And he was "hiding" behind his religion.
It's amazing that he admits what I'd pointed out here and that some of his supporters couldn't "see".

At least he admitted he was being cheezy about it.

13. Kucinich was just refreshingly honest and bold.
Dennis is the best Democrat running. Period.

15. Worst Performance By Far - Richardson.
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 10:19 PM by Toasterlad
Clinton was also terrible...qualifying EVERYTHING. It was clear that she was afraid of being nailed down on anything. No convictions whatsoever. Obama was all over the place - clearly out of his element. Edwards was polished but substance-less. Kucinich did a decent job, but he came off a little over the top.

As I said elsewhere, I thought Gravel was outstanding. I think he was the clear winner.

EVERY one of those candidates should have been asked the "choice" question like Richardson was. I'd have been VERY interested in all of those responses.
