Why TEXAS, of course.
It's part of a statewide program to curb pollution in major Texas cities.
The expanded, voluntary state program will soon offer low and middle income car owners up to $3,000 to to trade-in pre-1996 vehicles for models made 2006 or later.
A $3,500 rebate is available for those who opt to buy hybrid vehicles.
To qualify, vehicles must have passed a state inspection within the last 15 months, and the owner's annual income cannot exceed $30,600.

Alas, I don't qualify.

1. Wow.
Texas gets dumped on all the time, in part because it's Bush's "home", but they do manage to pass some pretty progressive stuff. This program is a brilliant idea, especially in the orange air zone that is Houston!

2. My jaw about dropped though when I saw that today. But Texas has to do
something, the big cities have really polluted air, and it's almost all from cars.

I have made a vow to never buy anything but electric or plug-in hybird again.

3. Mmmm, Texas. I grew up next to you, in NM, where Texan skiers and nature lovers made things
pretty enjoyable, unless y'all were in a big partying group, and even then you knew it'd be fun, eventually!

5. I really love NM. Haven't been for awhile, however, and never in a big partying group.
There's something very peaceful about just being out on the land.

6. I have a 13 year old car.
But I have no job and no job prospects so I couldn't pay for a newer one on a trade in anyway. Or the insanely high insurance rates, since the Guv and the politicians have sold out to the Insurance lobbyists.

Problem there.
