1. They weren't prepared and mishandled it

Why do they keep assuming they can negotiate with Republicans? And the fear of a terrorist attack they would be blamed for in August is ridiculous. Why haven't they learned to plan these things in advance? From the same column:

Dems should have stuck with the argument that the current laws were sufficient and that the GOP was politicizing the issue to make their illegal activities appear legal.
