BRAD BLOG 'Full of Shit' Says Diebold Marketeer; Aftershocks of CA's E-Voting Earthquake; MORE...
From the look of things, the Voting Machine Companies, and the Elections Officials who sadly continue to enable, apologize and lie on their behalf, are up against it these days. Finally. At least if today's notable BRAD BLOG articles are any indication... -- Brad

Diebold Distributor Tells BRAD BLOG 'You Are Totally Full of Shit'
Comments That We Are 'Deluded', 'Paranoid', 'Looney Idealogues' and that Voting Machines Are Not the 'Cause of Our Problems, It's the People'

Challenges Us to a Debate...We Accept...

In a late comment posted just this morning, in reply to the article and photos about my recent visit to Diebold in Texas, a person claiming to be Ken Hajjar, the Director of Sales and Marketing for one of Diebold's New England distributors believes I am "totally full of shit"

His comment begins, "Dear Brad, you are totally full of shit. I used to think that all of the looney idealogues were on the right. There are just as many on the left and you are one of them," and goes on to call me "paranoid" and "deluded" from there, while shooting himself in the face concerning his own argument (with which we agree, though not as he meant it) that "It's not the machines that are the cause of our problems, it's the people."

He also then challenges me to a public debate, which I accept...If he's still interested after my well-evidenced, and perhaps decimating, reply to his silly, ill-conceived screed...

Columnist: 'Whining' California Election Registrars are 'Losers, Exposed as Careless at Best, Irresponsible at Worst'
Says Were it Not for Debra Bowen's Victory Last November, We Wouldn't Know About 'Corruptible' Voting Machines Rubber-Stamped by Her Predecessor Bruce McPherson...

Once again, in a world of horrible reporting and irresponsible journalists, willing to pass on discredited, unevidenced sour grapes from Election Officials and Voting Machine Company spokesliars, it's syndicated columnist Tom Elias who cuts through the crap and tells the truth about those "loser" Officials.

CA's E-Voting Earthquake: Aftershocks Felt in Kentucky as State's AG Takes On Voting Machine Companies in Light of California's Demand to Correct Faulty, Insecure Systems
LETTER: AG Stumbo Demands Same Protections from Diebold and Hart InterCivic for His State as Demanded by Debra Bowen In California

While KY's 'Do-Nothing' Secretary of State Wants To Do Nothing...

In terse letters sent to voting machine companies Diebold and Hart Intercivic (letters posted in full at link below), KY Attorney General Gregory D. Stumbo demanded that the companies "immediately implement in Kentucky all modifications and security upgrades necessary to correct the vulnerabilities identified by California."...

Kucinich Says Legal Action May Need to be Taken Against Voting Machine Companies
On Election Integrity Program Says 'There Might Be a Legal Basis For A Lawsuit That Deals With Denying The Right To Vote'...

The subject was voting machines, the vendors, and the voters, and Kucinich raised the possibility that the recent studies done on such systems in California might be the basis of a lawsuit to throw out "that technology." He said felt that legal action, in this instance, may be a faster route than waiting on Congress to act...

Waxman Tells Impeachment Advocates He'll 'Keep an Open Mind'
Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles Lobby for Accountability in Meeting with Chairman of House Oversight Committee...

Marcy Winograd, former Democratic candidate for the U.S. House and President of the Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles (PDLA), sent the following e-mail missive to PDLA members earlier today describing a meeting on Tuesday with Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee.

The conversation regarding Impeachment, the Congressman's views on same, and the arguments made by the activists in favor of it are interesting and offer some insight into both Waxman's thinking at this moment and, undoubtedly, that of many other House Democrats who clearly are seeing things differently from inside the Beltway than those of us outside of it.

We can only hope that all U.S. House and Senate members are getting such an earful now that they're on recess and back in their home districts. Here's Winograd's instructive report in full...

7. Richard Hasen (LA Times Op-ed) in support of Bowen's decision:
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 03:30 PM by pinto
E-voting paranoia, or the right course?

Debra Bowen's decision to decertify voting machines in 39 counties may help restore public confidence in elections.

By Richard L. Hasen
August 7, 2007

Is California Secretary of State Debra Bowen an out-of-control state official whose unwarranted fear about the security of electronic voting machines caused her to make a rash decision Friday to decertify voting systems in 39 counties and send California's presidential primary into turmoil? Or is she a heroine who has saved California from the specter of "hacked" elections and whose only fault is not going far enough in barring all electronic voting machines?

In truth, Bowen is neither the overzealous bureaucrat that county election officials have painted her as, nor is she the savior of American democracy, as some voting reform advocates have claimed. Instead, she has made a reasonable decision about how to reform the state's system for conducting elections, in light of voters' concerns about the security of electronic voting equipment and given the system of overlapping federal, state and local control of federal elections.

<snip>

But such criticism misses the main point. Large segments of the public have lost confidence in the security of electronic voting systems. Although we may trust our county election officials (who generally have stellar reputations), the fear is that electronic voting machines might be hacked without the knowledge of these officials. You can't stop ballot-box stuffing you don't see.

<snip>

Now, more than six years after the Florida debacle that had the fate of the presidency depending upon how to count a "hanging chad," we are still debating the best way to cast and count votes. Bowen's decision was a reasonable option for moving toward a fair system that will keep the public's trust.

9. State Governments Unite
This is the only way to defeat what is happening in Washington, 1 state a a time. We need o get the states to buck the current trends from Washington.

Maybe we'll can find a State Governor who will publicly announce that he will not allow their state National Guard to be deployed by Bush to another state in case of a "disaster" or other "national Emergency".

Remember, in China, the Tiananmen Square protest in 1989, it was troops from out of the area who would fire on the protesters when the local Guard refused. I can see Bush taking the Guard from a distant state away from the "emergency" to enforce "control"(meaning "Obedience") in that area.

23. About Kucinich and Legal Action
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 11:46 PM by BillORightsMan
Last summer Mike Papantonio (from Ring of Fire on Air America) filed a Qui Tam* lawsuit against one of the voting machine manufacturers (he wouldn't say which one because the lawsuit was sealed).

Reference http://rangevoting.org/DieboldSuit.html">Blowing the Whistle on Diebold @ www.InTheseTimes.org

He mentioned that the AG had six weeks ON EDIT 60 days to take the case (and then unseal it). If the AG declined, Pap could then run with it. I've emailed Ring of Fire several times and get the same response from his law office:

We are not allowed to comment on the suit.

Brad, do you know what is going on with this? Are Pap & Bobby still pursuing this? Anybody?
Good on Dennis to breach the subject! Dennis needs to re-introduce H.R. 6200 Hand Counted Paper Ballots soon!

GREAT WORK BRAD! And it was great speaking with you on the Peter B. Collins show last Friday!

*Qui Tam @ wiki
Qui tam is a legal provision in the United States under the False Claims Act, 31 U.S.C. § 3729 et seq.), which allows for a private individual, or whistleblower with knowledge of past or present fraud committed against the U.S. federal government to bring suit on its behalf. Its name is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase “qui tam pro domino rege quam pro se ipso in hoc parte sequitur”, meaning “he who sues for the king as well as for himself." This provision allows a private person, known as a “relator,” to bring a lawsuit on behalf of the United States, where the private person has information that the named defendant has knowingly submitted or caused the submission of false or fraudulent claims to the United States. The relator need not have been personally harmed by the defendant’s conduct.
