10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong:
(Lifted from another forum where no attribution was included.)

* 1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

* 2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

* 3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

* 4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

* 5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

* 6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

* 7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

* 8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

* 9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

* 10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

if marriage is an option for me I will no longer have any cover for being a cheap and slutty gad-about.

Say no to respectability!

will rub off. I would love it if I could actually discuss colors with my husband before we paint a room.

GatorGSA continued its tradition of clever, irreverent, edit: and SARCASTIC flyers on Valentine's Day 2004 with a dirty dozen reasons why homosexual marriage is "bad" and why gay people should not be allowed to get married. After 2 months, we have just reached 100,000 hits!

13. Now that you mention it....
I guess it is a bit out of place.

As a side note on solidarity, I would like to report that my 80 year old previously republican parents have broken ranks because of the gay marriage issue. They find it horrible that so many people are denied the civil rights that come with marriage. I find it very endearing that at their age they can change their minds about what party they will support. My mom even went so far as to say the other day that cheney is evil.

17. my 77-yr-old mum
lives in a senior cits' apartment building in what we up here call 905 -- the outlying areas around Toronto, formerly small towns and farmland, mostly bedroom community now -- you know, the parts that get hived off from the real city and given a brand new area code so everybody else can mock them. ;)

The other residents are mostly from the old-time small-town element. Between them and the suburban morons, the Conservative Party holds sway. During the last election, my mum had a New Democratic Party window sign, and was having to put up with some of her neighbours nattering about same-sex marriage. I mentioned this in another post somewhere today -- the Conservative Party has a large element that still wants to turn back the clock on that, abortion rights, the usual. So my mum just said now, how would you feel if it was your son? And what does it matter to you what people do in their personal lives? And they shut up, and the less obnoxious of them may even have got the point and held onto it.

The co-vivant's mother is even older, and she borrows all our Michael Moore DVDs. But then, while my mum was a traditional 50s wife-and-mother, she was never quite like that. Basically, the co-vivant was raised by wolves, as far as I can tell ...

They both agree that your Bush and our Harper are evil, though!

23. I have a question that shows my ignorance.....
what is a co-vivant?

I always find it refreshing when the elderly are liberal. It just seems really odd when there are so many college kids who are conservatives.

33. I don't think I coined it ...

so I must have picked it up somewhere. Since I speak French, it always just seems clear to me, but I forget it isn't to others. ;)

vivre = live
vivant = someone living
co-vivant = someone living with someone else.

You may feel free to use it!

My mother has a slightly younger brother who married a fundie Baptist in the mid-1950s and stopped speaking to the rest of us. He has matured, but then of course I think his kid was the first one in the family to have a kid without getting married so he may have had to step down from his lofty height a little ... and his snotty wife is even pleasant now. He's in southern Ontario, and people there tend to be a bit too absorbed in US culture -- but at least the US news person he's devoted to is Keith Olbermann!

30. Gay People Having Children
I think the thing that bugs me the most...or one of the things...is the assumption, even made by progressives, that gays can't have kids. My uterus did not fall out because I am a lesbian and right now in life, I know more pregnant lesbians than I do straight women. That one just shows total stupidity and lack of anatomical knowledge or something....

34. I am a lesbian who has "natural children" - they emerged from my body
My children were conceived by my then-husband. We are now divorced, and my partner is a woman. Does this somehow make my children "less natural?"

Suck on that lemon, Pat Robertson.

40. as does my ex-sister-out-law
i.e. the mother of my nephew, who previously lived with my brother, and is now married to a woman. I met her on Saturday for the first time, when she picked up my nephew from my place.

This gave me the chance to tell my ex-sister-out-law what my nephew hadn't got around to telling her, and that I had only recently been told by a distant half-cousin -- that his great-great-great-great-great-grandmother's brother's grandson, as a member of the Judicial Committee in London that overturned a Supreme Court of Canada decision (as was then possible), wrote the decision that held that women were "persons" for the purposes of appointment to the Senate -- one of the most important decisions in Canadian constitutional history. It was that decision that held that the Canadian constitution was a "living tree" that must be given a "large and liberal" (heh) interpretation -- which is why Canada now has same-sex marriage.

My ex-sister-outlaw merged her genes with the best possible family. ;)

I personally can't think of a child who isn't natural regardless of how conceived, carried and delivered.
