Pelosi Blames Bush Administration for Media Reports on Use of Military Plane

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the Bush administration on Wednesday of publicly mischaracterizing her need for a larger military aircraft to travel back and forth from the West coast.

The speaker, however, specifically omitted President Bush from her complaints. "I know that it's not coming from the president because he impressed upon me the amount of security I need to have."

2. See LBN post - WH defending Pelosi against GOP criticism
Because it's a little too close to home to be bitching about excess security it seems...

Hey, mild lack of hypocrisy for once in a blue moon. I'll take it.

3. She was undoubtedly being sarcastic when she said:

"I know that it's not coming from the president because he impressed upon me the amount of security I need to have."

Such an innocent and polite comment, could she (a very successful politician) Not know the irony of her statement? I doubt it. Only a suave woman like Pelosi could get away with such a comment. Don't tell me she doesn't have some powerful aristocratic Southern lady in her background.

6. As parents, we've all used the same tact
"What happened to the cookies? I know our kids, Tommy and Julie, wouldn't have taken them without asking permission, so I wonder who could have taken them?"

While it's well known, others have been known to excel at it.

7. It is true what you all are saying

....Pelosi might be doing the "cookie" thing to catch Bush at his own hypocrisy and get her plane.

Alternatively, she also could be using coded language to tell her supporters and her allies on the Hill that she had been set up. After all, if Bush impressed upon her how much security she would need and suggested the aircraft, then it is a clear case of a set-up. We would be wise to consider this as a possibility, I believe.

11. But does anyone in the Bush Administration do anything without tacit approval from * or Cheney?
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 12:54 PM by marmar
Kind of like during the 2004 campaign when everyone but Bush would attack Kerry's patriotism and war service record, then Bush would come back and say it's not right to attack his patriotism and war service record. Good cop, bad cop....but don't trust the good cop either. It's a proxy attack IMO.

13. She needs to call their bluff. If she really flew on a commercial airline, the Secret Service would
have a stroke. The correct type of plane would then be absolutely forced on her - and the GOP would look like the idiots that they are.

I think the GOP doesn't yet realize who they are dealing with - she is one smart cookie.

18. DK on the floor: do you agree with the WH statement that it's a silly issue?
he was addressing a wingnut who was going on about Nancy causing global warming. Apparently her clever handling led to a statement from the authors of the smear.
