To the DU'ers who are upset about which threads get attention.
Hey folks, I can understand if you're angry that certain topics get a lot of attention and certain others don't. Sometimes I get dishearened about that too.

But DU is a huge place. There are hundreds of threads up all the time. You don't have to open every one of them.

So if you think it's a waste of time to talk about Anna Nicole Smith or Super Bowl ads or the size of someone's house, that's fine.

But please, do your blood pressure and the community a favor. Don't bust into other people's threads and tell them how angry you are that they're having a discussion that you're not interested in.

1. But, I can't get attention if I don't complain in every thread on a subject, plus start my own!!
I apologize for my sarcasm, but that's what a lot of the thread-jackers seem intent on doing.

2. DU has doubled in size. So it gets harder and harder to have a thread
responded to as everyone is posting threads and zooming through alot of stuff. Me myself - I answer perhaps 1/4 of the threads I look at. It just depends.

6. Good o.p.!!1 This goes for FLAMERS, too. Why do they feel the need to post
in threads they don't like, with sarcasm, snark, and personal attacks. Disagreeing with a posted opinion is one thing, it's "discussion". But the just plain ugliness is, uh, ugly.

11. What topics would have caused a stir in pre-internet days?
Earl Butz's remarks

Remember the time that woman was fired and replaced with a younger anchorwoman, because she was "too old, too unattractive, and not deferential to men?"

She became my heroine for that last one.

15. Who is this "Anna Nicole Smith" person of whom you speak?
"I am SO FAR above the execrable hoi-polloi who actually watch TV!!"

Inevitably, someone breaks into a pop culture thread with a "I'm sorry, but *I* don't watch reality TV and don't know why we are discussing it" or "How dare we discuss anything frivolous!"

16. Good on ya, femmedem
I agree completely. I understand there are folks on board here at DU who deem
certain subjects more important than I do. It's human nature. I take no
offense with any of it.

Maybe I see things a bit differently than some. I learned long ago to disregard
what wasn't important to me. I find it interesting that so many want to spend
valuable time making posts carrying on about what does not matter to them.
Happy Friday! :toast:

If you really don't like them, hide them. I did with the house threads and the Steve Irwin threads, and the all superbowl ones too. There are others but those are the most recent. And you know what, there were still thousands of threads left to view after I did all the hididn.
