Tom Coburn Admits He Has No Interest In Representing The People
It's amazing what manages to come out of the mouths of Republicans when they speak the truth:

Sen. Tom Coburn, as quoted by the Tulsa World, speaking on the ethics reform bill that the U.S. Senate recently passed:

"If this becomes law, I will guarantee you I won't run again. I'm not about to put what I've worked for for 35 years as a physician and a businessman at risk so I can represent the people. I will say 'I'm cashing it in.'"

2. That's our Tom.
How this dick managed to get elected, even in this state (OK), is a mystery to me.

13. Brilliant deduction tulsakatz
Imagine, the aspects of being ethical turns him off.

And we had a perfectly good middle of the roader Democrat running against him. Rhodes Scholar on top of that. It was the fanatical bible thumpers that pushed hard for Coburn. The silly commercial against his oponent, his name escapes me, was a swift boat type cartoon.

They were trying to scare people with the word liberal and they also said that Coburn's opponent would be close to liberals like Hillary and Ted Kennedy and they showed cartoon character pictures of them.

Brad Carson was his opponent.........I liked him too!

And thanks for the compliment.....

7. If I'm reading this correctly,
what he's saying is that if a law that makes it so he can't take bribes and enrich himself at the people's expense, he's not going to run again. How fast can we all say, "GOOD RIDDENCE"????

Take a step back and think about what he might have been trying to say;

I'm not about to put what I've worked for for 35 years as a physician and a businessman, {in order to} represent the people, at risk.

As much as I believe the OP's interpretation to be dead-on, BOTD says he just botched what he was trying to say.

14. What I am wondering is how it would be put at risk if he had to
follow the new ethics rules?

17. He was just flailing.
I'm sure the truth would have gone something like; "With these rules in place I can't fleece the people who voted for me!"

11. Yes, absolutely. What the hell does it take to get this point across?
Why do you think we're all miserable at the local level? This people absolutely believe that public office is meant to improve their private business. Why do you think there is a revolving door between the members of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club and local government?

I'll bet people he'll STILL be reelected with over 55% of the vote.

He's not up until '10 though...
