PETA: Statement on Anna Nicole Smith ~ "PETA has lost a good friend. We’ll miss you, Anna."
Not that we need ANOTHER Anna Nicole thread, but I thought this was worth a mention.

http://blog.peta.org/archives/2007/02/anna_nicole_smi.php

She worked with PETA on a lot of campaigns over the years, and as strange as it may sound, I always thought she was an absolute perfect fit for us, because just like PETA, you couldn’t ignore her and, love her or hate her, everyone had an opinion. What you see is what you get—I loved that about her.

After being exposed to animal rights over the years, Anna Nicole even became a vegetarian, and was nominated for the 2006 World’s Sexiest Vegetarian, and looking at her ad you can certainly see why.

It's a tragedy when anyone passes away before their time, but with Anna Nicole, the animals have lost a true sympathizer, and PETA has lost a good friend. We’ll miss you, Anna.

40. Enough with the comparisons to Monroe
Monroe was an artist and actress with unforgettable luminous beauty. In celebrity world it is sad that ANS died, but she was no Marilyn. Why is it when someone who is blonde and buxom who dies suddenly compared instantly to Marilyn Monroe? I think ANS was more synonmous with Mamie Van Doren.

13. OMFG....now Anna is being hailed as the second coming of St. Francis?
This is too, too much.

Meanwhile, how many people have died in Iraq since our 30-second sound-byte minds have been distracted by this vapid woman's death? Yeah, she died, it's sad and tragic, but Jesus, Jospeh & Mary, don't you think we need to put her influence on society into a little more perspective?

You're not impressing anyone.

Well, maybe some of the other assholes.

The but-what-about-the-war hysterical knee jerk response is disingenuous and spurious...the only thing valid about it is the 'jerk' part.

33. Bravo!
I feel sad for her in the same way I'd feel sad for any woman (and she's only a few years older than I am) who recently lost her son and now leaves behind a daughter.

Her daughter will never know her. That's what makes this so sad. And I'd feel just as bad if this had been any other woman.

If you don't like these ANS threads....hmmm...what could it possibly mean, that you feel compelled to post in them? You're not going to make people who do care, not care. Hmmm.

Are you 12?

Is someone forcing you? Is that it? Are terrible space monkeys forcing you to read threads and reply to threads you don't like?! I'm sorry that's happening.

Good for ANS. I knew this about her. RIP.

of the "human" label? :eyes:

This is a liberal discussion board, right? When Jerry Garcia died, did liberals call him a drug infested nobody? Oh that's right, that was RUSH LIMBAUGH.

Apparently men who do drugs, are far more palatable than women who engage in same the tragic lifestyle?

Then again, Janice Joplin wore tie dye and made kick ass music, so her drug use makes her a "legend."

As I said, if she were a man, the words "bimbo" and "floozy" and ??? would not be tossed about as rationale to dismiss her humanity.

25. I Knew There Was a Reason I Liked Her
I wasn't a rabid fan, but I always found something likeable about her - perhaps it was that she seemed so absent of malice. Sure, she seemed absent of her senses sometimes, but never mean-spirited. I don't always agree with PeTA, but I DO agree about Iams and so glad they got the word out that the formerly excellent Iams wasn't Iams anymore (they were bought out by P&G).

32. As a fellow PETA member, I mourn her loss.
You know what is amazing to me about these ANS threads?

It's that *some* people seem unable to grasp the fact that people are complicated. Even people like ANS that get labeled as "dumb blondes." Every person has many facets to their personality, some good, some bad.

A great example is President Clinton.
Some things he did drove me crazy.
Some made me love him.
Some made me roll my eyes.
Some made me want to shake him.
Some I will admire him forever for.
Some I will be forever disappointed about.

Why can't people accept that ANS wasn't "just" a pretty face?

I thought that as liberals, progressives, whatever, that we don't just see black and white. We can see all the subtle shades that complete the whole picture.

35. I knew almost nothing about her...
...except what little one can't help but overhear in the media. From that little bit of info, I thought she was a pretty screwed-up person, and kind-of a bimbo. (Reminder to slap self: "Don't judge a book by its cover.") Well, she may have been screwed up, but I've got to honor anyone who campaigns against fur and for animal rights. How sad that we often only learn a person's good points after they die. RIP, ANS.

I let them tell me who Al Gore was, and for a while who John Kerry was. And now I find I didn't know the real Anna Nichole either. She was screwed up to be sure. But she was a person, and not a cartoon to be ridiculed.
