"DRAFT GORE" Meeting Held By 2000 GORE Campaign Top Policy Advisers

Supporters push Gore to run in 2008
By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer

CONCORD, N.H. - Veterans of Al Gore's past are quietly assembling a campaign to draft the former vice president into the 2008 presidential race — despite his repeated statements that he's not running.

His top policy adviser from his 2000 presidential campaign and other key supporters met Thursday in Boston to mull a potential Gore campaign. The participants and Gore's Nashville office both said Gore, who is in London, is not involved.

Elaine Kamarck, a veteran of the Clinton White House and Gore's policy guru in 2000, said the meeting was informal and shouldn't be taken as a sign there will be a Gore 2008 campaign.

Chris Mackin, a Boston consultant and Gore supporter, called it "an early stage conversation." But he added: "We're very serious about exploring this."

14. My choice too! That's an FDR combination Part II
We need some folks willing to step up and have the courage to rip out the corporate entrails of what's infested our system. These would be the best guys to do it!

4. I love gore...but wasnt it his handlers who tanked him in the first place?
I think staying away from them would be a good idea.

5. I sure as hell don't want those bozos lining up to represent
Gore again! If they were worth a damn we wouldn't have had eight years of Shrubco.

8. Um...Gore won in 2000. He won in Florida, too....
...whatever the shortcomings of his handlers might have been.

15. They need to publicly disown the DLC and embrace public campaign financing!
Then perhaps we can see whether they've "reformed" like Gore has now!

17. Quite wrong in my view.

1. Gore won.

2. History indicated he should have lost.

3. Ergo, his campaign was relatively effective.

While his campaign wasn't perfect, I have not seen one that was even close to that. His campaign came back to overcome a major lead by BushCo and against a strong headwind.

But if you feel I'm wrong, I'm happy to debate it.

23. If the DNC had done its job and secured the election PROCESS before 2000, Gore
would have won easily with all his votes counted.

DNC let party infrastructure collapse in too many states in the mid90s, and that is what Dean has been working on these past two years, and it will take another two years to get the party back to where it was before McAuliffe's 'targeted state strategy' was employed.

16. He's just being intelligently cagey!
He doesn't want to get the DLC weaponry lined up to give him a full broadside like they've done with Howard Dean and now Obama (or at least are giving the illusion that they are doing it towards Obama perhaps to attract support from us for Obama).

I'm betting that Gore's being really picky about when he's going to have his moment to get in. I think he wants to find a place where he's not going to face an onslaught of corporatists as much as possible. Until then, he's going to keep them guessing!
