It's the only time I can afford to eat out

1. You gave up French food, right? And Italian, Spanish, and Mexican food. What's left?

2. I just ate at a Chinese buffet for supper tonight
I am a sucker for General Tso's chicken. I know, techinically that's a Chinese-American dish, but I've eaten at hardcore Chinese dim sum buffets as well. Dumplings, chicken feet, and all that - and I even use red vinegar instead of soy sauce. The only thing I won't eat there is shark-fin soup. Not until they can convince me that the whole shark is used for food instead of the shark being dumped alive into the sea after being dismembered.

We split the house special, which is huge. $8.00 for 2 for dinner, YUM! I think I still have rice and vegetables for lunch tomorrow.

3. Go for it, Wiley50.
Heck at our age, how much difference can it really make?

$4.99? Man, I have lost 17 pounds in the last couple of months. I am coming out to where you are and gain it all back on General Tso's Chicken.

Is this only one day a week?

The only death insurance I have is trusting my doctor enough
that I know he'll wipe me so out on Oxycontin in the last few weeks
that I won't know what hit me

Life Insurance! Shit!

24. I must confess. I had an open faced roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes
with gravy. Fried corn was the side order.

I felt guilty for a five seconds.

Where's it brewed?

For example, Kirin (allegedly Japanese beer) is
brewed under contract by Anheuser-Busch in L.A., CA.

32. Qingdao, China
http://www.tsingtaobeer.com/tsingtao_history_lager.php

The Tsingtao Brewery was founded in 1903 by German settlers in Qingdao, China.

Tsingtao Lager is brewed and bottled by the Tsingtao Brewery-the 10th largest brewery in the world. Also, Tsingtao Lager is the 12th largest beer brand worldwide.

Introduced to the United States in 1972, Tsingtao soon became the top-selling Chinese beer in the U.S. market and has maintained this leadership position ever since.

The Tsingtao brand is sold in more than 50 countries worldwide and accounts for more than 50 percent of China's total beer exports. In fact, Tsingtao is the number-one branded consumer product exported from China.

Damn tasty, but I have reservations...

35. I'm still not sure I heard "made in China".
I certainly mean no offense, but I'm still not sure
I heard "made in China" in that web-site blurb. It
costs a lot of money to ship suds across the ocean;
they may very well have a deal similar to any number
of the "import" names.

I'm thinkin' that since we don't eat there every day we can probably survive whatever's in the secret sauce that came from the Old Country.

But it sure does put a bit of a crimp in the pleasure of the experience.

20. Yes!
Far, far safer than the Olde Country Buffet. But stay away from the hot and sour soup that smells like stinky feet.

P.S. You have lunch buffets for $4.99? I don't think we have anything under $7.99 for lunch for miles (and those feature specialties like cat foo yung).

23. Not in our little city. The chinese food restaurants all have
bad grades from the health inspectors. It is "eat there at your own risk" for almost all of them here.

26. There has been trouble with Chinese eateries in Columbus.
But I never put it together with the product recalls till I saw your post. Every few months there is an article in the paper about a local Chinese restaurant being forced to close temporarily (or permanently) due to health and hygiene violations. This doesn't seem to be happening with other types of restaurants.

27. I've stopped eating at my local Chinese buffet...
Although the rest of my family loves it. I liked it too for awhile: the mussels and the beef with onions were exceptionally tasty. Also the mushroom dishes. However the last couple of times I've eaten there, I'd go home and for 24 hours or so afterward I'd burp up something that tastes like sulfur or "rotten eggs." I don't go there anymore.

My family and I are developing divergent tastes in local restaurants. Soon we'll be going out to eat in separate cars.

31. True story from Lake Tahoe...
There was a funky little Chinese restaurant near where my Mom lives. Even though she loves Chinese, she didn't eat there because it just looked a little too funky.

One day she sees a report in the local paper about how the place had been shut down by authorites because, during an inspection, they found cat carcasses frozen in the fridge. :( They had no idea if any had been served as food, but really now, what are the chances they just happened to have dead cats in their kitchen???

33. I usually try to order tofu instead of meat at restaurants that I'm unsure about.
The worst case scenario, in my mind, would be that the cat meat might be served in dishes that were listed as "chicken" on the menu. I know that's probably very rare that it happens, but just the off chance that it could happen is unacceptable.

Mom's BF said "Oh, that place closed. They found cats in the kitchen."

My literal-minded self replied, "Well, why didn't they just chase them out?" :eyes:
