From the Dept. of Homeland Security: "Ready.gov" (Grandchild of "Duck and Cover")
Yesterday we heard a radio ad in the car -- a child conversing with his parents about what to do in case of a terrorist attack. "Would you and your family know what to do, where to meet?" The message urged people to spend some time with their families developing a plan.

Brought to you by the Department of Homeland Security, "Ready.gov." Did you know September is "National Preparedness Month?" Your tax dollars at work!

Now, it's not all about terrorism, at least overtly. Some of it is about natural disasters -- because, you know, the government CARES! If only those people in New Orleans had been prepared... Well, now we've all been warned!

And don't miss the extensive section for kids:

5. "apply duct tape here"
over DHS sec.'s mouth. First thing I thought when I saw the post.

I am still working on the Earthquake Kit. Far more likely, and much more practical. But I don't think I have enough room under the beds to store the stuff.

3. I especially loathe the commercials directed at small business owners
re: establishing an emergency plan. One commercial in particular has some snarky guy talking with his relatives/business partners about emergencies like "fire breathing dragons...." and dismisses the female (the granddaughter) of the group like an underling when she asserts her place in the company.

Ick. :puke:
