Plame Investigation Over -- Fitzgerald's Chief Deputy Joins Private Sector
Edited on Mon Aug-20-07 01:09 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
For those of you who are still hyperventilating about Sealed v. Sealed or the imminent indictments of Rove and Cheney, time to give it a rest. Fitzgerald's chief deputy has joined the private sector. The Plame investigation is clearly over:

DLA Piper has boosted its litigation strength with the addition of a partner in Washington DC.
Former US Department of Justice (DOJ) attorney Peter Zeidenberg has joined the firm's US litigation and regulatory practice.

<snip>

During his time at the DOJ, Zeidenberg was a deputy special counsel involved in the investigation and prosecution of Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby, a former assistant to George W Bush and chief of staff to Dick Cheney who resigned from government after being indicted on five counts of felony.

1. The Plame Case will be over
when they pry all of my internet research on the subject from my cold dead hands.

4. Considering the fact that AUSA's go into the private sector
all the time, stating the entire investigation is "clearly over" is premature. This is not the first time that someone involved with the investigation either retired or went into the private sector. See Special Agent Eckenrode, for example.

The investigation is currently inactive.

5. I think its similar to saying
that the Ship will now go into mothballs because the Commanding Officer is leaving.

6. I think they're at a standstill because of Libby's OOJ
He's the linchpin. Until the Special Counsel can turn over another rock and get some more information, he's waiting and watching.

In the meantime, Libby supposedly won't serve a day in jail, but isn't he still on probation?

7. After watching Rove on TV yesterday, I wonder why they did not indict him.
He was clearly lying on TV. Watch his body language. He is reciting facts he memorized, not facts that he remembers. Also, his blinking increases to an incredible rate, and he suddenly becomes very insecure. Then he reminds himself that Armitage wasn't indicted either and says he still does not know whether Plame was covert. Incredibly bad liar when it comes to the Plame matter. He shakes his head no, when he is making assertions.

I was an admirer of Fitzgerald until I saw Rove's "performance" yesterday. I came away with the impression that Rove has contempt for Fitzgerald, as if Fitzgerald was not man enough to get the truth or man enough to push the charges. So Rove goes on to continue his life of crime. He will continue, and continue until he is finally brought to justice by some prosecutor with courage and intelligence. Unfortunately, Fitzgerald was not his match. Or is there something we don't know about the grounds for letting Rove go free.
