That's back-of-the-envelope stuff ... mental approximations ... for when you don't know it's 1440 which is ten times the square of 12. :evilgrin:

10 x 12 x 12 = 5 x 12 x 24 = 60 x 24 = 1440

(I have all kinds of lazy tricks like that - that's why I got a Math undergrad.)
