Government admits lying about jailed border agents
I haven't seen this posted anywhere and felt it was too big to let pass. I first heard about it yesterday on Lou Dobbs...and I think it originated with World Net Daily News so grain of salt time, BUT, we have two pissed republican Reps., no, three Reps if you include Rohrbacher mentioning the impeachment word. :D

Reps. John Culberson and Ted Poe, Texas Republicans, are outraged after a Homeland Security official admits the department lied to Congress in the case of the two former Border Patrol agents. They join us.

This is the original WND article:

Government admits lying about jailed border agents

A Department of Homeland Security official admitted today the agency misled Congress when it contended it possessed investigative reports proving Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean confessed guilt and declared they "wanted to shoot some Mexicans" prior to the incident that led to their imprisonment.

The admission came during the testimony of DHS Inspector General Richard L. Skinner before the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, according to Michael Green, press secretary for Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.

Culberson was questioning Skinner about a meeting DHS officials had Sept. 26 with him and three other Republican congressman from Texas, Reps. Ted Poe, Michael McCaul and Kenny Marchant.

Under questioning by Culberson, Skinner admitted DHS did not in fact have investigative reports to back up the claims: "The person who told you that misinformed you," Skinner reportedly replied.

This prompted a startled and angry response from Culberson, who charged Skinner's office with lying to the Texas congressmen and painting Ramos and Compean as dirty cops.

1. You know big and small things like this will
bring these guys down

Abuse of power is their main name

As to the pissed Republican Reps, well if they were lied to, all of Congress should be pissed

And it is part of a pattern

3. This is one of many...
deep, dark holes to explore where these criminals are concerned. Looks like someone at DHS is talking, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see Republican Reps on Lou Dobbs wondering why "high officials" saw fit to set these border guards up? :D

2. I don't know if they had that. The prosecutors fact sheet...
http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/txw/press_releases/2007/Compean_Ramos_factsheet1.pdf

"The agents shot at him 15 times, hitting him once, knocking Aldrete to the
ground. Compean and Ramos chose not to walk over to the wounded Aldrete and arrest him;
rather, they re-holstered their guns, turned around and left the scene."

The whole fact sheet contains excerpts like that shoot holes, as it were, through this BS story.

4. Rethugs aren't happy. Here's some more, threatening impeachment:
Several Republican lawmakers have sharply criticized the imprisonment of two border agents who were convicted of shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in the back and attempting to cover it up.

Appeals to President Bush to pardon the two men, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, have increased since one was assaulted by fellow inmates in a federal prison last weekend.

Yesterday, two Repulican Congressmen had strong words to say about Bush, with one even threatening impeachment.

"Reps. Walter Jones, R-N.C., and Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., blasted President Bush for not intervening in the case, with Rohrabacher hinting that he would consider pressing for impeachment if either of the two agents was killed in prison," Dave Montgomery reports for McClatchy Newspapers.

8. Well, the evidence from the court case and the prosecutor...
that's a start. Lou Dobbs has the whole thing completely fucked up and distorted, and I must say I usually like him. I like the Republicans going after Bush for this, but I know it's not a real thing to do it for.
