Dean makes landfall near Tecolutla Cat 2 100mph winds

(CBS) FELIPE CARRILLO PUERTO, Mexico The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Dean made landfall near the town of Tecolutla as a Category 2 storm with top sustained winds of 100 mph.

Hurricane Dean was passing over the Gulf and building up strength as it moves onto the coast of Veracruz. Some 10,000 people have been evacuated from coastal cities.

Officials say nearly three-quarters of an oil city of 120,000 people is under water, after Dean carried in a storm surge. In another city, troops and civil defense workers are loading people into army trucks and taking them to inland shelters.
