SACRAMENTO (AP) -- State pension fund officials are apologizing to about 445,000 retirees whose Social Security numbers were printed on brochures mailed out last week.

Staffers from California Public Employees' Retirement System didn't realize the series of
numbers on the computerized address files were Social Security numbers. Officials are vowing the take immediate steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
