MoonieTimes: Conservatives say they pick "none of the above" with '08 prospects

'08 slate without standout for GOP
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Many conservatives say they pick "none of the above" when faced with a choice of Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani as the 2008 Republican presidential nominee.

"When I look at these top three guys, I think of Shania Twain singing 'That don't impress me much,' " said former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, referring to the popular country singer.

Such dissatisfaction with the leading Republican presidential candidates is widespread among the party's conservative stalwarts, including many of the 150 alumni of the Reagan administration who attended an annual reunion at the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday night.

"We are without a viable candidate for 2008 at this point," said Mary Ann Meloy, who was an official in the Reagan White House.

1. Watch for Newt Gingrich to enter the race soon
He's said that he won't announce a decision until September, but I imagine that conservative groups are going to put a lot of pressure on him to announce much sooner than that.

Can you imagine the negative campaigning that a Gingrich campaign would produce?

3. Not many people are interested in voting Republican in 08.
It doesn't matter who they run. They've all hung together for the last 6 years and now they're paying for it.

4. Right-Wingers ALREADY Making Excuses For 2008?
Good Heavens! The 2008 presidential elections haven't even taken place yet, and it looks like the right wing is already making excuses for losing them!

I suppose like most second-rate scam artists, the right wing is trying to cover up what its effect has been on an increasingly angry and restless electorate that is fed up with Dubya-style "conservatism." By saying that it doesn't like any of this cycle's Republican presidential candidates, right-wingers can scam Republican Party panjundrums into believing that the policies they've been pushing over the last twenty five years and put into place during the last six years had no effect on the voter backlash that hit in 2006 and is likely to hit again in 2008.

As for anyone who is dumb enough to believe this right-wing Bushwah, all I can say is that PT Barnum was right. There's a sucker born every minute.
