"Keep Away From The Funerals:" An Exhortation on "Christians" Protesting Military Funerals

Note: I disagree with her opinion that the media has distorted the war reporting, and Iraq is most certainly a very serious issue rather than being boring or passe. However she does make an excellent point here regarding these folks who call themselves Christians yet are espousing the most ridiculous, hateful rhetoric, at funerals no less.

It is not what Christianity is about.

This war in Iraq has turned into quite the controversy and political nightmare. It’s all sounding so boring now….. Where are the weapons of mass destruction? How many more billions must we spend? How many more troops must die, on and on? But as spicy and difficult as all the analysis of the war and its challenges become due to all the media distortion, one reality trumps most the other war rumors, and blow ups,….. that is people in the name of God demonstrating at military funerals all across the country, most recently in my home state Washington. Members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka Kansas think they are doing the will of God by going around saying that God is killing troops in Iraq to punish the nation for its tolerance of homosexuality. Just one of the plaques I saw recently said, “God Blew up the Troops.”

I guess those of us who support our troops and wouldn’t dream of ruining someone’s funeral are all going to hell. The last I heard, The Bible says you will know them by their love, not love for hate and torture of others but love for one another. But what do I know, I’m one of those reprobates who will burn in hell because I wouldn’t dream of protesting at anyone’s funeral, regardless of what I thought of that person, who they were and what they had done in their life.

Regardless of how any of you shape this war, shame on all who would dare to do anything so anti Christ and evil as to even think about appearing at anyone’s funeral to protest. We can all argue about differences and lifestyle issues over coffee. Leave people’s funerals alone!!!
