A note about Edwards
I was in Kucinich's camp in 2004 and paid very close attention to what he said. On numerous occasions he talked about what a good person Edwards is. I've never met Edwards but I have Dennis, and I have to say I trust his judgment.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. I think Edwards is a good egg.

2. If all they can bring up about
him is his house (don't get me started on that one) and the latest on the two bloggers - I think he's fairing pretty well. If there was any stink attached to him it would have been brought out in 2004. He has my support...

4. Why I like Edwards.
I don't agree with everything he stands for. But I at least understand why he feels the way he does about the things we disagree on. And that's OK, I know I won't agree 100% with anyone, but as long as I can see how he got from A to B to C, I can live with that, depending on the issue, of course.

Edwards was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He worked hard and made his fortune on his own, it wasn't willed to him. Therefore, he knows what it's like to not have everything, and to have to struggle to get by.

He is a smart man. He knows about the different world cultures, religions, leaders, etc. He is also familiar with American laws and court procedures.

He speaks well, pronounces words properly, presents himself well, interacts well with others, is open to suggestions, fair minded, willing to admit mistakes, and comes across as Presidential.

I think he's a man of integrity and ethics, and I believe he knows the difference between right and wrong. And he understands the importance of not forcing his beliefs on others.

And one thing that's important to me is the next President will have to be able to clean up the mess our current pResident has left behind. It will take someone with a very strong character to handle that task effectively, and I believe Edwards can do that.

He has my vote for now.

5. It's discouraging when DUers try to tear him apart.
Thoughtful criticism is one thing, but some of the things I see written here at DU about all of our very good candidates is infuriating and disappointing.

We shouldn't engage in the circular firing squad so much.

8. I suspect the competition for limited campaign contributions drives this kind of conduct...
I agree that we have many excellent candidates running this time.

I do not find it necessary to denigrate any of the Democratic candidates in order to make my choice, Edwards look better.

Yet I find numerous posters here going out of their way to condemn Edwards thinking it will make their candidate look better to other DUers.

It is a fact of life that all the Democratic candidates cannot gain the Democratic nomination for President, and be elected President.

It is also a fact of life that eventually the Democratic Party will have ONE nominee for President, and if we turn on each other before that happens we will be helping to elect another Republican to that office.

Republicans love it when Dems attack each other. Remember that when you think about condemning any Democratic candidate for President.

Nothing should prevent us from discussing positions of the various candidates without making personal attacks.

11. as you know...
i worked very close to dennis.

i know for a fact there is a lot of respect between the two (families) not just between the two men.

i remember one time, early on... after a debate ... in the spin room.. there was a woman just standing there smiling. if you know the spin room.. you know anyone just standing there with a smile is very odd. I asked, thinking she was a reporter... did she want to talk to the congressman...

she smiled.. "no... i just want to give him a hug."

this was before i knew who this person was... it was VERY early on and the first debate.

I saw dennis catch her eye... he broke away from his interview with cameras all on him, and broke through the reporters and give her a big hug...

he said... "Elizabeth!!!!"

it was indeed mrs. edwards.

they embraced as good friends.

when she walked away... she said to me (by now knowing i was working close to dennis) and said "you guys are doing courageous work. keep it up!"

from that point... i took note of her, and her husband.

today...

Edwards has my vote, passion, and sweat. i will be working hard to get him elected.

9. I know many people were baffled
by the deal he cut with Edwards at the Iowa caucuses, especially given the IWR. Obviously the presonal plays a role just as much as policy.

10. Actually Edwards and Kucinich have a lot in common....
I have no doubt if Edwards were to win that Kucinich would have a prominent place in his Administration. Kucinich would be a powerful force in such a position, and would accomplish a great deal for the American people.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt Kucinich would garner such a position if another Dem candidate were to win.
