1. this is fine with me
we have F'd up the ecosystem by creating forest edge conditions that deer thrive on. we have eliminated their natural predators. deer are good to eat - in fact much better for you than industrialized beef.

think of the problems we'll have when the bison come back in these numbers!

2. It's not fine with me.
These deer are not afraid of people and are practically tame. It would be like shooting cows in a pasture.

3. Well, if the cow is in my yard and is being belligerent I'd shoot the
damn cow too. Deer are pretty so like the baby seals they get a lot of sympathy. Deer also have sharp hooves that they use for territory defense. If it MY territory they're trying to defend by attacking me and my pets I have the right to defend right back.

Now, if you want to discuss the loss of habitat and human interaction that caused the problem, that's another post altogether. Habitat encroachment, if done carefully, and wildlife management, if done correctly, would have avoided the problem altogether.

4. we don't shoot cows in the pasture
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 01:10 PM by maxsolomon
we put them on trucks powered by petroleum taken from the ground a half a planet away & send them off to be killed by machines out of sight of our beautiful minds. then we buy them wrapped up in plastic & styrofoam.

shooting cows in the pasture would be more honorable.

in fact, i'd prefer that we ate deer & elk & rabbits & boar & bison & wild turkey, hunted right outside our doorsteps. wouldn't you prefer that to industrialized meat production?

5. I'm a vegetarian, so I don't prefer meat production in any way.
