Clint Eastwood comes out against the Iraq Ware

Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood has said he opposed the United States' decision to go to war in Iraq but said he admired the "tenacity" ofPresident George W. Bush.

In an interview with Fox News, Eastwood, who has been nominated for a best director Oscar at this month's Academy Awards for World War Two movie "Letters from Iwo Jima", said he was against the US-led 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The United States' goal of trying to impose democracy on Iraq was flawed, the 76-year-old said.

"I wasn't for going in there," Eastwood said. "Only because democracy isn't something that you get overnight. I don't think America got democracy overnight. It's something we had to fight for and believe in."

While other Hollywood celebrities have been outspoken in their criticism of Bush, Eastwood said he admired the US leader's tenacity.

"I think -- you know, I kind of admire the tenacity he has," Eastwood said.

2. That's like saying you opposed the Holocaust but admired
Hitler's tenacity (or ruthlessness) in pursuing it.

5. But Clint, we didn't go in there to spread democracy, it was to protect the free world from those
WMDs. Don't you remember?

6. There those damn Hollywood liberals go again
with their leftist anti-american agenda, bashing the war. Interesting that both Gibson & Eastwood have come out against the war in Iraq, but the fundies still love em. Well, we will have to wait & see about Eastwood. When he was mayor - was he a Repuke or Dem? I beleive he was a repuke.

Also, don't forget about Arnold bringing universal health care and stemcell research to Cal. Looks like the fundies are running out of heros.

7. This is not worth arguing or thinking about
If anything, Mr. Eastwood's last three movies ("Million Dollar Baby", "Flags of Our Fathers", "Letters from Iwo Jima") shows that despite his personal political and social leanings, as an artist he is able to see outside of his own beliefs and experiences. That puts his far ahead of most other folks I've seen who identify themselves as Republicans or conservatives. A far as conservative celebrities go, I don't find him nearly as odious as Dennis Miller, Ron Silver, Stephen Baldwin, etc. Furthermore, I'm not going to judge someone on one line excerpted from one interview - especially given how the MSM is frequently jacking for provocative or juicy gossip.
