I suspect that this could provoke an argument over the "true" meaning of the Second Amendment, but our Constitution gives us the right to keep and bear arms.

While having an AK-47 seems like cold comfort when your opponent has tanks, the Iraqi insurgency has shown the world that simple weapons can be effective.

We can prove that some of the serial numbers on some of the weapons used by some of the insurgents are Russian in origin! Are we going to just sit around and wait for Russia to attack the U.S.? in the Quran require that Muslims be armed to defend Islam. The Sikhs, not Muslims, have a similar belief system. In the US, Native Americans subscribe to a similar belief, but not as rigorously. Taking away the household weapon would be a religious and cultural afront. It is worse than drawing cartoons of Mohammed (and we know where that went).

Here in the US, it is a "right", but 80% of the American population does not actively exercise that "right".
