A question about the character Ronnie for those of you who have seen Little Children?
(((Spoiler)))

I watched the movie this past weekend and I gotta say that it left me with mixed emotions regarding the character of Ronnie who was brilliantly played by Jackie Earle Haley.

I have been an advocate of the notification process that tells citizens of a given town or city that a sexual predator is living in their area. I have 3 children and that's something that I'd like to know.

This movie portrays the good side of that law and the bad side. In the movie it was clear that Ronnie was still obsessed with young children. The scene in the pool was one of the freakiest scenes that I've ever witnessed in a movie. His date where he masturbated in front of his date next to the playground comes in a close second to the pool incident. The guy is one F'ed up dude.

On the other hand, the behavior of the town was close to a lynching mentality and I suspect has been played out in places with this type of law. It was disturbing and sad.

At the end, I felt bad for Ronnie because he was sick. He didn't want to be the way he was but he couldn't help himself.

I'm still an advocate for the notification process--- but I must say, I am wavering a bit on how it should be implemented. I don't know?
