If someone said to you, in 2000....
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 04:13 PM by lynyrd_skynyrd
If someone said to you, in 2000, right after Bush "won" the election, that he would ignore a memo about an impending terrorist attack, that an attack would occur, that he would use it to start a war on a completely unrelated country (plans for said war having been laid out way before the terrorist attack even occurred), and that that war would be bungled so badly that over half a million innocents would die and over 3000 soldiers would die, and tens of thousands more would lose their limbs, and billions would be stolen by huge corporations, and that civil liberties would be suspended, and torture condoned, and that the media would, after 4 years, all but completely ignore it, and that there would be no end in sight, and that the Democrats would not pursue impeachment....

Would you have believed it?

4. I wouldn't have believed it, as in bet on it... but I sure wouldn't think it impossible
or even implausible.

It pays well to learn from history.

11. Ahhh yes, I remember year 2000.

That was when people worked just one job and that would provide a decent income, that was when they had health insurance, when they could get a mortgage on a new home if they were in the market for one, when they could give the grocery clerk a dollar for a loaf of bread and get some change back, and when they could travel to another country and say with pride that they were American.

It doesn't seem like it was that long ago but things sure have changed .... thanks to that SOB from Crawford.

12. Absolutely.
I'll never forget the sinking feeling in my stomach when it was obvious that Poppy's mini-me was going to get to steer the ship.

I knew we were in for a royal screwing.

I wish it had been different.

14. Many on DU would have believed it because many on DU said
imagine the worst...and know the reality will be worse than that (or words to that effect)

15. But...would you believe it if they told you the Republican Party would self-destruct in six years?
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 04:51 PM by Perry Logan
I'll admit it's been a horrendous time. But who knew they would be such screw-ups? It's as if God had struck them down.

16. I knew George W Bush and Dick Cheney were disaster from the
git-go. I do not know exactly why, but I have despised that twosome since they were first officiously embedded in my consciousness. I knew George was an evil man, who never saw a death sentence he didn't like and who never earned an honest dime ( and who without the Saudis never even earned a dime) and who had run Texas in such a halfbaked way as to have the state become the greatest environmental disaster in the USA. The man is a walking disaster; oh, woe is America.

17. Yes
I was horrified as I watched the 2000 election returns and knew IMMEDIATELY that the election had been stolen.

As I said in an earlier post, you've got to wonder (at this point) how many of the "red" states are actually red. I figure some are purple, if not violet.
