The great Pavarotti is dying
http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5j48RlyDeFFGLAKMQILgwqs1g9z2A
<snip>
Luciano Pavarotti's health has deteriorated and the tenor was in very serious condition, suffering kidney problems and losing consciousness, a local Italian TV station reported Wednesday.

Television station E' TV Antenna-1 in Modena reported that the 71-year-old tenor, who has pancreatic cancer, had lost consciousness and was suffering from kidney problems at the Modena home where he has been recovering following a hospital stay.

The ANSA news agency, citing medical sources, said Pavarotti was believed to have lost consciousness for brief moments in recent days. The AGI news agency said Pavarotti was in "very serious condition." It didn't name its sources.

What a voice!! How sad is this.

your comment is funny as Hell....

I have a sarcastic sense of the absurd though.

I also love Pavarotti. I hate when this happens. Losing a great one and all...

But the post was funny.

(I think Pavarotti would crack up at this too.... Come on people... Tenor so minutes.... That's rich!)

I hear the mob storming my backdoor with their pitchforks and torches...

Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 09:24 PM by mentalsolstice
I lost my best friend, mentor and partner to this cruel disease. He was diagnosed on a Monday, and two Mondays later, he was gone. It's the car-wreck of cancers...the victim and their family have such a limited time to get "it" together.

edit: spelling

22. My friend Barb's husband was just diagnosed with it last week.
Three kids. 3-4 months to live if he can tolerate the chemo, if not, 1-2.

His dad died from it as well.

I was holding Luciano Pavarotti up as an example of someone who didn't pass immediately, too.

31. I don't know how to tell you to support Barb?
I really don't know what to say. Mike died in Aug. 1995, and yet, I can't say that I've gained sage knowledge in past 12 years. He was my husband's best friend (brother he never had) since 1970. He was my best friend based on professional experience (both lawyers, same law school, same liberal ideals about the profession), we spoke by phone, daily, for several years.

Mike's death affected us...almost like losing a child. It was horrible...and it was quick. There really isn't anything comparable to pancreatic cancer...Just be there for your friend, for her it will be like watching a slow train-wreck (fast, yet, slow).

It's like a car-wreck victim getting 15 minutes to say what s/he needs to say. If you can imagine trying to gather your thoughts and words for those precious 15 minutes. It's a blessing...perhaps?

edit for clarification.

30. A true professional -- he actually kept an advance promise to appear
here. He was signed 3 years in advance to perform in our little city before he was famous. Even though he was getting huge sums of money for his performances, he kept his word and contract and performed here. At least, that is what I was told when I moved here. That's a pro, and a gentleman.

Peace and absence of pain are my wishes for the Great One.

...thank you for sharing one of the great musical gifts of your generation with us, so generously, and with such warm professionalism. You inspired another generation or two, but none of the great ones who come after you will ever have quite your way with a smile and a lungful of air.

I feel very blessed to have shared the Earth with you at a time when human ingenuity could enable me to hear so much of your work.

You will not be forgotten.

sadly,

40. If a crazy black metal / noise / industrial / grindcore / death metal person like me...
...can appreciate him I think it says a lot about how influential and good he was.

Actually, he's part of the reason I can listen to some of the weird stuff I do.Back when the Three Tenors first came on PBS I was heavily into nothing but hardcore punk and straight out thrash. But I watched that one night, at first to make fun of it, but I found myself liking it.It was one of those musical moments that opened me up to the possibility that there could be good music that isn't beating you over the skull for 60 minutes. It's part of the reason I can listen to jazz, blues, and other assorted oddness now.It was part of that musical progression that still keeps me going.

I still think opera is music for people who hate music though. ;)

I hope he's free of pain and has his family and friends close by.

They even put up the words in English on a little screen over the stage when they are singing in a foreign language.

I liked him, and even off the stage he seemed very cool from what I had seen.

Even the opera comment was tongue in cheek. What you say is totally true. When I could walk into an underground music store and hear him being played (which happened once) you know he's reached across genres and tastes in a big way.
