Just enough is unfortunately too much.
Just been reading Nance's latest rant, and got to thinking about what it takes to motivate people to action en-mass.

Our problem is related to what it is that makes a suicidal bomber out of a supposedly (and actually quite) intelligent college graduate. When you personally have nothing to lose and no hope of anything to gain, then it becomes very easy to spend something valueless (oneself) in order that others around you might gain.

For us, it is so long as we have just enough. Just enough to keep food, no matter how poor, on the table; Just enough to keep a roof overhead; Just enough... Provided we still have that, we won't risk rocking the boat and losing the little that remains left to us. And the harder we have to scrabble to keep that just enough happening, the less inclined we are to do anything to risk it.

4. That close to what?
  • The wall with your mortgages? Not a good time to upset your republican boss/supervisor, if you are.
  • The absolute edge? Because paying for little Susie's chemo meant selling the house and moving into your mother's garage?
  • Deciding enough is enough and taking a gun to your former workplace?
  • Some idiot from either end of the political spectrum deciding that if Congress won't do something about Bush, HE will. I don't know which would be worse, success or failure, but, either would be disastrous.

Hell it can only be hoped that America is that close to the line. Because if it takems much more of this to wake America up, there won't be an America to wake up to.

2. I agree
We have just enough to not want to rock the boat. We live in two worlds. We have our private world that is played out on the internet and with family and close friends. We have our public world where we interact with people who we don't know what their political bent is. We are happy not to know because then we would have to draw lines that, once drawn, would have to be crossed. We are not willing to cross those lines yet...but we will be forced to soon.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Guess I'm "insane" too. You have much company, btw. :)
