PLEASE DU THIS POLL--STAND UP FOR WORKER'S RIGHTS
Edited on Sat Feb-10-07 09:56 PM by leftofthedial
Governor Ritter sold out to the first gang of repukes to show up in his office with a bag of money, reneged on a specific campaign promise and spat in the face of every worker in Colorado by vetoing a pro-labor bill. (He did it on the weekend to avoid the flood of negative publicity he richly deserves, the lying bastard.)

The Denver Post, the same fishwrap in which a recent poll turned out to claim there is no such thing as global warming, has a poll on the matter. Right now the drones of the ruling class are winning.

poll about halfway down the article

Ritter did the wrong thing

I am amazed that so many people think he did the right thing.......more proof, if any was needed, that Americans are brainwashed enough to vote against their own self-interest.

9. thank you!
we've made up a little ground

I'll never understand the reservoir of ignorance in this state

this state passed Amendment 2 (anti-gay amendment)

not a month ago, this newspaper conducted a poll in which the majority claimed that global warming is nothing but wacky left-wing propaganda

now this.

I know it's not a scientific poll, but I'm sick of the country club set here crapping on working people

10. Not Sure He Sold Out. It Sounds Like He Had The Best Intentions. What Exactly Was So Big About The
bill anyway though? I read the article but didn't understand the big deal with not wanting the second vote. Since you probably understand it more than I do, can you explain why it was important?

12. Colorado is one of the unfriendliest states in the union to workers
it's "right to work" (right to be fired with no notice and no reason) state

very anti-union. Historically, it is the home of the Ludlow Massacre, the Coors relentless anti-union efforts, etc.

Unlike nearly every other state in the union, Colorado requires two votes and a supermajority of workers to unionize. This makes it extremely difficult to unionize.

His promise to support this specific legislation was part of his relationship with organized labor during the campaign.

13. Oh Ok. I Don't Know Much About Union Stuff. All I Know Is I Hate The One We Got.
Personally, I wish it were easier to break them. But I know that's just one out of god knows how many unions there are and many operate in far better fashions. Didn't know about how tough Colorado was with labor laws though, so I guess I can see why some additional legislation is important.

15. As the great grandson of Edward Doyle, a leader of the union at the Ludlow Massacre...
(With the letters to prove it from Mother Jones, and one letter from Samuel Gompers, and a commendation from the state.)

I don't believe union shops are a wonderful idea. Quite frankly, people ought to be able to join a union or not. This whole idea of charging people representation costs is a little silly, if the non-union employees don't want to be a part of the union, they won't be treated in the same manner as union employees and they will suffer the consequences of being non-union. It would be a good idea for the employer to have a contract with the union and then have the ability to form human resources policy for the non-union employees. If the non-union folks don't like their situation, then they'll join a union.

Employers on the other hand, shouldn't be able to reject a union's status, which it seems from the Rocky Mountain News story is another part of this legislation.

People ought to be able to form their own unions and do as they please.

While that may be so, I don't really understand why having two votes or one vote is such a bad thing, either way.

18. sorry to be snarky
unions are not a panacea

undoubtedly an individual shop can be a good or a bad example of unionization

but collectively, unions are the best thing to happen to workers AND to capitalism in all of human history.

Democrats have abandoned this and rleentless propaganda have created irrational anti-union attitudes even among those who have most and would most benefit from unionization

That we would even have to discuss this on a Democratic board is a little disheartening

23. exactly
Notice the Republican quote in the article pitting "hard working buisness people" against "union bosses." That the right wing has convinced so many working people that it is unions that oppress them is one of the great triupmhs of propaganda over reality in the 20th century.
